Need advice on new brakes.

Hello,

I have a 2007 e90 335i with sport package, and I need front and rear rotors and pads. I'm kinda on a tight budget but at the same time don't won't to put off brand bad brakes on. My question is what would be the best brand or set I could get for a decent price and where to order them from.

Thanks,
Alex

If you're DIYing, just check the FS section for some used OEM parts. I picked up a set of OEM pads at ~80% for about $60 a few months back. I've seen rotors as cheap as $50/pair as well (though you should be careful with warping/thickness on used rotors).

ECS occasionally has great deals on OEM brake parts, check there.

The best brand of rotors and pads is really going to subjective based on your needs. Street, track, etc...

I just did my brakes and rotors about 1500 miles ago and I went with the premium dimpled slotted and rotors from http://brakeperformance.com/ and found a killer deal on Akebono pads by searching the internet. I got my brake fluid, clips, and sensors from ECS. Everthing came out to just under $600. For everyday use the setup works great. The pads are similar to OEM as far as stopping, but have good bite once they are warmed up. Also they are virtually dustless. Which coming from OEM pads is worth the upgrade. The rotors look great and are a very nice aesthetic upgrade.

The rotors from http://brakeperformance.com/ come with free pads (or can upgrade for $40 a set). I was warned against their free pads from a fellow member so that is why I went with Akebono's. I don't think there is any verdict on their upgraded pads, so if you're willing to try them you can save yourself some money. But there is that risk that they could be sub par. If you choose to go with ceramic pads what is important is that rotors are designed for ceramic pads, otherwise the rotors will typically wear faster.

A lot of guys on here are running R1 rotors so I am sure there are few reviews/opinions on them. You may have to do a little research on their pads though.

If you intend to track your car one thing to keep in mind is that crossed drilled rotors tend to get small cracks around the holes due to heating and cooling. This does not render them useless but something to keep an eye on. If the cracks extend to the surface of the rotor you'll need to get them replaced.
