Diverter valve blowing out of socket? What?!
So, I installed a JB4 on my N54 335i tonight. Drove it normally for a while and then did a hard acceleration run. Heard an awful whooshy noise under the hood and assumed the worst, but it just seemed that the diverter valve had popped out of its socket. Popped it back in, everything was fine. No lights, warnings, nothing. Did the same damn thing a few minutes later under hard acceleration. What the fuck? Here's what it looks like:
So, questions:

You need aftermarket diverter valves or a blow off valve if you're going to run a tune.

Be sure that it is "locked" in place. If its locked in you won't be able to remove it by pulling on it(not too hard.) Sometimes it seems like it's in place but isn't.

You need to twist the gray collar to lock it in place. I've been running stock dv with plenty of tunes since 07. No real need to upgrade unless they aren't holding boost.

You do not need aftermarket diverter valves to fix this problem. |

Got it. Locking it in place seemed to fix the problem. It won't come out when pulling on it and it's not popping off in the 2nd-3rd shift anymore under full throttle. Thanks, guys.

Yep you just need to lock it. Over-time they stock DV with high boost can leak, its really on a case by case basis.
I've had guys see vast improvements in WGDC reduction and response from an upgrade, others dont find any difference aside from sound, so I tell everyone to upgrade based on needs or wants. If you need it you will know. If you want it, then just get it |
