Vishnu - Dedicated e85 map?
I've tried a 50/50 mix of e85 and 91 oct for a while and the car feels really great and snappy, but I'm getting cat efficiency codes which I don't really like...
So (Shiv), would it be possible to create a specific map for this purpose? I really like that extra power @ higher rpm's which the e85 provides! My logs looks great, but for some reason I get cat efficiency codes... |

Funny you mention that. Yesterday I tested an 80/20 mix of e85/gasoline and the low pressure fuel pump died within 10min. Not sure if it's a coincidence or not. If not, Id be hesitant to run any stronger mix of e85. More testing really needs to be done.

I've played around with 2:1 Gas: E85 and felt the extra zip that it provided. I had been running this mix for close to a month...
To alleviate the maxed out fuel trims, I made my own OL Fueling maps and got very good results and logs at WOT. The problem is- with so much fuel I was having issues with the getting the transition periods ironed out. It simply wasnt' smooth and had a couple hiccups going from say 25% TPS to WOT. That said, with the right amount of testing (and testing by someone more experienced in tuning than me), I don't see why we couldn't have a nice map. I wouldn't expect it to have the driveability of the V5 maps (or even the V4 maps for that matter) I coudl send you the map i created if you'd like to see it... |

Hmm... That's strange because I know a couple of guys that have been running various mixes of e85 for quite some time now...

80% e85 with 20% gasoline is a bit too much. Try 50/50 next time as I ran that combo for over 8 months with no issues.

Nope... i meant 80% E85 and 20% gasoline The idea was to eventually make straight e85 tune. But if running that much e85 can quickly lead to pump failure, running a weaker mix would likely do the same over a longer period of time. But I don't want to say for sure that was the cause of the failure. Might have just been a coincidence.

lol thanks. It's quite easy assuming no hardware compatibility issues. We did it with an evo back in 2007 for Mitusibishi. Worked great. Makes a lot more power than race gas as you know. Probably explains why it's so popular in high boost/small displacement applications.

When I 2step on e85 mix that's when I get the huge flames and the cops called for multiple shots fired. I don't really notice any difference in acceleration or top rpm power.

Was this on the single turbo car? If so I thought your secret fueling upgrade would have helped. Oh well

Kudos for trying but I figured someone with your knowledge would have known a car without a fueling upgrade wouldn't run correctly on that high a % of e85. You should give it a shot on your single turbo and that way we would know if your fueling upgrade is working.

I agree that the injectors should have enough room to support 100% e85. But what about the HPFP and LPFP. Thats where I'm guessing the n54 would have problems, and might be why the LPFP died on the car you tested. So thats why I said you should try it on your single turbo with the fueling upgrade. I'm sure there would be tons of people who would love to run 100% e85 if your fueling upgrade would allow them to do so.

Shiv ---> What do you think causes the cat efficiency codes?
...and how do we avoid them? I mean, the logs looks perfect. AFR and timing is in absolute top shape. This is with my Big Tom map from January 2011. |

Update:
Our 6at test car is now up and running on straight e85. Making good power. Will be giving rides in it tomorrow during our open house |
