Sound Right? Paint Repair

Long story short: Bought my car CPO, it has obviously been re-shot on a few panels and looked good, but it must have been a crap job. 18 months later and I have some bad hazing.

Consulted a professional detailed who said he would not be comfortable experimenting with wet sand to bring the shine back because it appeared it was re-shot with a tinted clear. He recommended I just have the panels in question re-shot the right way.

Talked to a body shop where I know the owner. I trust the quality of work. Quoted $1100 to re-shoot the hood, roof, trunk lid, drivers door, front bumper, and polish out any other little scratches on the car. I've never had a car re-shot so not sure if that's a good deal, but seems like it...

Your thoughts from experience?

That is a whole lot of repainting on the car without blending into panels. What color is your car? Dark colors you may be able to get away with this

when you say re-shoot, does that mean he is just painting over it or is he actually sanding down, primer, paint, clear coat like brand new paint job

At that point, why not just re-paint the whole car? Its going to be one solid color that way without having any blending issues. Its a pretty good rate, $1100 for what you are having done...a hookup rate on a whole car is $2500 here.

I question why it needs to be sanded for hazing though...usually a solid polishing would remove the haziness, and sanding is done to remove orange peel. Have you done anything in the last 18 months to the car in terms of polishing, waxing, etc.?

have any pictures?

Had it inspected first hand by a professional detailer, so it can't be polished out. I maintain my car like an enthusiast. Cost between whole car and just these 4 panels is thousands, so that's out.

Cost includes all prep. i/e doing the job the right way. I decided I am going to wrap the roof panel in high gloss black, so that should reduce the cost a few hundred.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Aficionauto. Can't remember the guy's name off hand. He was referred to me, but did not actually detail my car. He did come spend 15 minutes with me, though, and I was convinced he knew what he was talking about. Nice guy.
