iPhone snap in adapter
I have an E90 with professional nav + bluetooth. I have just bought an iPhone snap in adapter. When i insert the phone, it merely charges it.
I was expecting it to actually connect to the car so i can make and receive calls. is there some setting i need to change? or is that all its supposed to do - charge? |

On my e91 2011 you need to pair your iPhone via Bluetooth to make calls, regardless of it being charged or not it does all of its coms via BT. Once docked it will use the car antenna (if fitted) so you will get better reception. An update is available via the BMW owners area to enable you to steam audio via BT following the update to IOS 5.

I really have no idea on a 2008 car... all I can say is on the 2011 version... you pair the phone & it gives you a few options for phone , audio etc. Tick the Phone & Audio boxes & it works!
What version is your Nav, disc drive on on HDD? |

Help please! :)
Hi there, really hoping you guys can help as I can't seem to find the answer to my question in the fourm any where.
I've just recently bought a 2010 E90 business edition with iDrive. It has a USB port in the glove box, but in the arm rest I only have the aux input which looks a little bit like a headphone socket. I also have the snap in media hub in the arm rest, although I'm missing the cartridge to enable me to plug in my iPhone 4. I've paired the phone with bluetooth which works fine for calls, but I'd really like to be able to have the music on my iPhone played through the car and be able to change track via the idrive system. I've worked out how to play the music using the headphone like socket in the arm rest, but if I buy the correct snap in adaptor, then will I be able to access all the albums stored on the iPhone via the iDrive, and if so, which Snap in adaptor do I need to buy? Many thanks in advance for your help! |

Look at the BMW owners area on the bmw uk website and you will see there is a software update, you will also need to buy the Bluetooth audio snap-in adaptor to use this facility; they are for sale on the bmw website (not cheap). You should first check your bluetooth settings in the idrive system to see if you can stream audio, it will say whethe your car has the facility to stream audio or not. Edit : apologies - you do not need a snap-in adaptor for bluetooth, just stream it from your mobile phone.

Does this only work if you have the premium iDrive? I think I have the business iDrive and really want a way of streaming my iPhone music and controlling being able to change track etc.... I have the snap in media adaptor dock, although haven't yet purchase the actual snap in adaptor as not sure which one i need... My car is an Aug 2010 model E90... ?

If there is no usb port under the armrest then you could always go for a third party option, something like a 'Parrot' kit, but with limited idrive functionality.

I thought that you didnt need the snap in adapter to stream Bluetooth audio. If your car is equipped with Bluetooth music streaming then you should be able to stream without adapter. The standard adapter is needed for BMW apps or the multi media adapter for video streaming. At least that's how it works in my 640 and I thought it was the same for post 2010 e9x, but i could be completely wrong.

Yes I've just searched on the bmw website and you're right, there is no need for an adaptor to stream bluetooth.

Although my iDrive is the business rather than the professional in my 2010 E90... And I can't find an option anywhere to stream audio via bluetooth. I think this may only be possible if you have the proffesional... Any thoughts?

Yes you need professional media, you cannot stream music via bluetooth or control the iPhone with the business nav.

No. The snap-in cradle will provide power and, on some phones (not iPhone) will also extend the aerial. However it passes no data, all of which is done via Bluetooth. So, you will be able to make calls hands-free and charge the phone but you will not be able to stream music I'm afraid.

You can of course play the iPhone music through the car speakers in a basic fashion by using the AUX connection but you won't be able to control the iPhone, see album art etc through the iDrive.

Yep doing that already, but had hoped that I could control track change etc if I was to buy the snap in media adapter. It's odd that on the idrive the CD function is referred to as CD/Multimedia if there's no real Multimedia that can be pushed through!

Raising this thread from the dead because I have a similarly related question.
Will and IPOD snap-in adapter be able to take the place of the ipod attached to the Y cable on a pre-combox car?? What I am trying to do is have an ipod connect to the mobile hotspot provided by my phone and provide pandora through the ipod connection, thus showing the info like pandora song etc... |
