Basic 335 Maintenance & Out of Warranty Costs?

Guys, i'm stuck between an 07/08 335 or a 10/11 EVO X.

I like the beemer more, but i'm scared about maintenence and reliability, so i have a few questions about issues/costs with no warranty.

I've already done some research. And from my understanding these are the most common problems I could be seeing (please tell me if i'm missing something),

1) Waste gate Rattle
2) HPFP Problems
3) Turbo Replacement

I'm interested to hear from your experiences at what mileage and how frequently each of those problems occurs. And also how much. From my searching, it sounds like the HPFP is covered for 120k miles regardless of warranty. As for the wastegate and turbo issues, i've seen ppl talk about 5-6k.

Besides that, what do normal maintenence costs for the year costs? I've seen around $1k-1500 for things like...

Oil Changes, Brakes, Tires

Really the only thing holding me back from teh BMW is the out of warranty costs.

Thermostat and Water pump will go bad usually before 80k miles. That's about $650 in parts.

Valve cover and gaskets tend to go at some point before 100k. $350 just for parts. $150 in parts if you just replace gaskets.

Injectors, coils, and spark plugs will go from time to time. $1000 to pay for all these parts.

Suspension components go bad too depending on where you drive. In Atlanta, my control arms only lasted 30k miles. Those are only about $200 in parts though.

Oh and because these are direct injection, you have to walnut blast the intake valves periodically (around 4 years is common). Dealer charges $600 but you can find it cheaper other places.

Fluids and filters need to be changed periodically. Oil and filter change costs about $60 in parts, which you need to do twice a year at a minimum. Brake fluid needs to be changed every two years. ATF, diff, PS, and coolant very 4 years, which runs about $300.

These cars aren't bad if you're a diy guy and you maintain the car well. If you aren't a diy guy, get ready for $$$$ bills to the dealer.

Would everything you just mentioned be covered under a CPO?

Except for brakes, tires, plugs...

335i owner here. Just wanted to share my random experience.

I didn't get my car CPOd to 100k mostly because I wanted to learn more about cars. The only problems I have run into have been stupid/nitpicky shit.

My rear window regulator went out. Was a $65 part and installed myself. Only took an hour because I didn't know what I was doing.

I change my own oil and invested in some Rhino Ramps from AutoZone. Also do my own spark plugs.

Only problem now is my steptronic shifter won't rev higher, into SportMode. My paddles still work which is just fine by me. I've been told my electrical cables are loose/broken OR that I need a software update. But I actually save gas by not using the sport mode all the time, so I'm not too worried right now.

I've installed my own Rotors as well. That was a bear but if I had to do it again, then I'd be fine and it wouldn't take as long at all.

My halo ring is out on my headlights, and you have to take off the wheel, and front fender liner to access the headlights on the e90(sedans) unlike the e92s or later years. Only about 10 screws but I'm not worried about that at all.

I've saved a ton of money with the BMW CCA membership which gets you a discount off of parts and even maintenance/installs, up to 50%.

It's such a blast to drive and own, that I don't even care when something needs fixing. (knocking on wood)

The BMW is such a classy machine compared to the EVO. If I had to do it all over again, I may have upped for the CPO to 100k miles but I don't feel like I've spent $2k on repairs at all.

The HPFP is one of those things that I feel you would be fine with (I believe the warranty is til 100k miles, but I'm curious if you could negotiate because it's one of those things). After owning my car for about 50k miles after I first purchased, it's only been in the shop once for the HPFP issue. it was about 5-10 times more, then I would've traded it in. I'm in the infamous N54 as well.

I order all my parts from OEM BMW online stores or Turner Motorsports. Definitely helps.

The next step is that I'm going to install new suspension and bushings. But mostly because I want to.

The BMWs feel like tank when cruising, but as nimble as a butterfly when you want them to be. I love the engine-warp when applying the gas on daily drives, and it feels like no other. BMW for life!

what year and how many miles did you buy it with? and how many miles you have now?

I've worked on my civic for years, installed a turbo and everything, so i'm no stranger to working on cars.

30k @ 80k miles now.

If you are familiar with cars, then CPO is debatable. Mostly if you'd rather fix it yourself or not IF, something goes wrong.
