12v outlets failing me!!
So my 12v cigarette lighter outlets stopped working randomly..
I drive a 2006 330i. I usually have my radar connected to the one next to the ash tray and my phone charger to the one in the arm rest.. (so might have been using too much power??) I checked the fuse and it was perfectly fine... (no brown or any discoloring) The 12v outlet by the ash tray even lights up (orange) but gives off no power. http://www.bimmerwerkz.com/forum/att...-diagram-1.jpg According my fuse map ^^ my understanding is that the fuse is number 30 (correct me if I'm wrong) Asked around and no one knows what the hell could be the problem.. sooo...

Pull the trim panel and check the wiring harness/connector for continuity and 12V, fretting corrosion, electrical overstress, etc.

From what I remember, those outlets (at least the lighter one) supposedly they dont like aftermarket things being connected to them. The prongs or w.e you wanna call em on the sides of the connector on your device will apparently wear out the contacts in the socket and make them useless. Again, this is what I have heard, no idea if it is true or not.

Yeah took it to my mechanic last week and he replaced both sockets saying they got f*cked up cause of those 'prongs'... which doesnt make much sense since I used the same radar on my audi for like 2 years and worked fine. But oh well.. bmw ftw

When my 12v outlet failed, they said it was because I overloaded it somehow. Needless to say they charged me $120 for it.
