Where is the "Outside Temp" sensor located?

For some reason my car registers 3-4F lower outside temp than other cars.

Any idea where the outside temp sensor is located or what could be wrong?

I remember when installing PROcede, you have to remove the temperature sensor as stated in the video. I'm affraid i messed up something.

Any help would be appreciated.

The first pic is the air temperature sensor that is removed during PROceed installation. The second pic shows the sensor being held by me.

It's not 100% accurate because it's located under the hood like pictured.

Same goes for most cars, I've noticed that the temp inside the car is a bit more exaggerated than what it should be.

Your top black cover of the ECU is not correct in place. It should not rest on the hood gasket, push it towards the engine so that it's beside the gasket.

No biggie. Cheers, Eugen

The temp sensor is in the front bumper, I believe that sensor thats removed is the carbon sensor for auto recirculation.

The outside temp sensor is usually in front one of the front wheels. The right side if I remember correctly It plugs in to the air duct in front of the front wheels. At least that is where it is on old e46's and e39's... Most people rip off the duct when hitting concrete parking blocks and what not... It is a little probe type sensor....

Now it's fixed. Funny how somebody can see my mistakes through a photograph over the internet and I can't even remember how to put it back in its spot with the car right in front of me.

Does anyone know the part number for the sensor that Nyulak is holding in his pic? The last time I removed it the little notches that hold it in place snapped off. I have tried supergluing them back on but I'd really like to replace the part if it's cheap and easy. Thanks.

I haven't a clue to the number, but you should be able to ask the parts department for a price of the outside temperature sensor. They should be able to track the part number down for you. Once you have the number, start calling around for the best price.

That is not the temperature sensor. The temp sensor is located behind the front bumper near the intercooler opening. It looks like this:

-40/122 quick fix

removing the front bumper is a beast of a job for the $20 sensor replacement. Here is the shortcut:

locate the wire running into the bumper - it is located below the passenger side headlight and feeds into the inner shroud of the bumper. Now, mine was easy to identify because it was the only wire in that area with some slack (easy to slide wire in and out of bumper. Next (I am not a professional, proceed at your own risk) pull on the wire, with minimal force and it will separate from the harness.

You will now have two wires exposed at the end of a very long wire wrap. I bought the replacement sensor and plug ($25 on amazon), and soldered/assembled. The wires work in either terminal.

BTW, you will know you pulled out the right wires if you wrap them together and the reading on the dash is 122F.

The wire is long enough that I could run it all the way next to the cabin filter, which is giving me an accurate outside temperature within 2 degrees.

This fix is extremely easy, fast and cheap. I hope this saves some other people the trouble of removing a bumper for this cheap sensor.

Bumping an old thread, can someone shoot me a pic of the driver side (left side) sensor next to the brake master cylinder cover? Car came this way and I am trying to figure out how this sensor is supposed to mount.

That is the mount for the hood switch if the car is equipped with factory alarm system. It will be empty like yours if the car does not have an alarm, completely normal.

Where does the sensor and pigtail mount? (The one in the center of the pic?) I know it doesn't just flop around there.
