I would say if it's bugging you and you have the means to fix, then fix it.I was leaning toward the PDR shop 1 (my guess is this is the confident shop you referenced), however for $300 more you're probably better off at the dealer with a guarantee. Just saying.

Good luck. Show us before and after photos once you get it done.

My ding is just on the other side of the roof rack attachment. I've mentioned it to a body shop and 2 PDR guys. All said it was inaccessible and not worth it. It would have to be filled and painted. I feel your pain. Annoys the crap out of me.

In for suggestions. I had some drunk asshole jump on my trunk, roof, and hood two weeks ago. Im going through insurance but my dents are worse and I was told my two very good PDR shops that they wouldnt even touch my car. They said the roof is toast, and the hood is as well because they said the aluminum hood stretched too much. In all honesty the dents arent that deep but to return to the way it was the night before, something must be done. The PDR guys told me I was looking at new hood, either cut out and replace roof, or bondo and repaint, and trunk lid may be able to pop the dent.

Very interested in opinions on the roof portion of this!

I was told mine is $3000+ in damage

going for a real quote this weekend.

man thats sucks...usually they need to take the headliner off to get access to it. My audi dealership had hail storm damage on all of our lot cars ( last year ) I can say I removed 100's headliners for the PDR to remover all those dents. some smaller ones they glue something onto your paint and pull the dent out.

Anyone have a DIY or similar to get our headliner off? I pulled gently and felt like I was going to break stuff.

I had worse than you on my roof panel from a hail storm. These will come out so close to 100% that you won't even know it was there if you use a reliable PDR company.
I would find out who your BMW dealer uses - I doubt BMW actually does it, and contact that company directly - cut the dealer markup out of the cost. From my experience, most PDR shops have a reference list with set prices in which they charge your insurance. It's usually priced out by ranged number of dents per panel plus labor for disassembly and reassembly. Most shops should be pretty close in price.
Yes, they will have to drop the headliner and the sunroof. It's no big deal. They can print off the step by step instructions from TIS.
Dont pull on your headliner - there are screws under the over head hand rails (thing??), under the visors and under the front and back lights.

The roof rack molding cannot be fixed. They will buy a new one from BMW. It just pops out and back in - I can check my receipt to see how much it was and PM you - around $60-80 prepainted I think.

Only you can decide if you cant live with it and want it fixed.
Good luck!

Lots of PDR shops will state that it's "not possible" when there are jobs that they simply don't want to do. I'd find a really good PDR shop who has a great reputation and is confident and comfortable with the work. My brother is in the PDR business in the Atlanta area and does plenty of "impossible" dents that no one else wants to mess with.

This is an easy job. Maybe 1.5 hrs r&i for headliner and sunroof drop. Dents will come right out.

The GF had DentDoctors do a glue pull on a dent and it came out virtually perfect. The company won't guarantee that it will be like new, but I'll bet that you won't notice it.

+1. Mine was the same, no increased premium as it was a no fault comprehensive claim.
EDIT: Sorry, I just re-read the post and realized your's is not hail damage, it's from your bike / garage accident.
This may still be a no fault claim?? Ask your insurance, the worst they can say is no.

wait, do you have to drop the sunroof (glass) as well to get to these dents? Or are those dents just easily accessible after dropping just the cloth headliner ???

I assume the sunroof glass and sunroof door stays in place, after dropping the head liner. If they need to access through the sunroof, whats the point of dropping the headliner in the first place?

i read before that sunroof drop is a bit** and therefore, not recommended and should be avoided if possible. Seems like sunroof dropping is tricky.

I already followed the TIS and removed 80% of the interior including my backseats, B, and C pillar. The only thing left to remove is the A pillar, map lights, handle, visor, and the headliner should fall right out I hope. I did half the work myself because I didn't want the PDR shop to rush and spend the entire day to put everything back. THey told me they would need the car the entire day. I just felt more comfortable taking apart/putting the interior back myself , very carefully , so that I don't break anything and I make sure everything is aligned and no rattle exists.

Thats why i ask about the sunroof because I am not sure, and I really dont' want to touch it myself.

If the paint's not broken, I wouldn't bother. If it just bothers you and you don't mind paying the insurance comprehensive deductible, have it fixed.

Sunroof I think should be fine to leave in. Really just need access to metal behind the dent and the have long tools with great angles to get behind panels, etc... Whole headliner may not even have to come out, just dropped a few inches to get between the roof and headliner.
