Adaptive Headlamp Control Malfunction
Just got this error message on my car today. Has anyone ever seen this? I asked my SA and he said "sounds like it needs a new stepper motor and you'll need to replace the headlight". Do i really need a new headlight for this issue? Any advice would be much appreciated.
My car is still under CPO but seems like this won't be covered. |

I have this consistently displayed on my car because I got a little moisture in my headlamp and it ruined the adaptive control system from some old angel eye mod....dealer wanted over a thousand to fix it.....u can guess what I told them... I don't need my lights to turn with the wheel that bad...a have many other things I'd like to do with an extra grand

I posted a link to a new adaptive unit in this thread. Hopefully it'll help you.

There is a module under the headlight that controls the adaptive headlights. Costs about $60 bucks used on Ebay. Try that first to rule out its failure before you spend all that dough on a new headlight.

I got this warning light for adaptive headlights a couple weeks ago, and sure enough, while driving, the headlamps wouldn't turn ahead of me (god what spoiled brats we are!).
The code went away the next day (two weeks ago now), and hasn't returned, and the lamps are functioning fine since. My mechanic tells me the part has a history of wearing down and eventually failing, and the replacement parts are in the $850+ range (says I'll need the entire assembly). Couple questions: 1) WTF? 2) Will the lamps default to straight if it fails, and if so, is the obnoxious headlamp feature worth spending that kind of cake on? 3) Isn't there a cheaper way to fix this, like just replacing the motor on the AHL? I can't seem to find anything the above poster mentioned... My tech tells me this is a progressive issue, and it will get worse, eventually failing 100% of the time. He advised me to sit tight and wait till it completely fails. Last edited by AWD Addict; 11-20-2012 at 08:14 PM.. |

Look for this type of module if you have an E92:
