H3R Fire Extinguisher / ECS OEM Mounting Bracket **DIY/REVIEW**
I have wanted a fire extinguisher in my car for a while and finally made it happen. I used the ECS OEM fire extinguisher bracket listed here...
http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E92-335..._All/ES255516/ I had trouble deciding what fire extinguisher to use since I wanted something larger than the 1 lb / 1 kg mini extinguishers and it had to be a Halon unit. Halon fire extinguishers are effective on fluid and electronic fires without damaging your wiring like traditional fire extinguishers can. I took the plunge and ordered the H3R HG250B fire extinguisher not knowing if it would fit. The good news is it fits beautifully with only small modifications. Mounting the ECS bracket to the seat is very easy if you just remove the bolts tot he seat and lean it back. Remember to unplug your battery so you don't mess with the airbag in the seat. I did need to drill a new hole in the bracket from ECS and the H3R bracket to mount things perfectly, but it took 20 minutes. I used M6 bolts and teflon locking bolts to secure everthing. Anyway, here are the holes I drilled to match a M6 bolt... I used a small teflon spacer in between the H3R mounting bracket and the ECS bracket so I would get a very snug fit. Here is the fit with the slider part of the sport seat all the way back... Here is the seat slider moved into the normal place that I have it during driving. Notice how it sits well tucked under the seat. This is a Halon fire extinguisher, so it is safe for fluid fires and electronics. I wanted the 2.5 lb for the larger capacity and it obviously fits without problem. The H3R fire extinguisher looks great and is not an eye sore in the car, so overall I accomplished what I wanted and I hope I never have to use it.

LOL! The single turbo review has been delayed because I needed a new mounting bracket for my thermostat on my Stett oil cooler. It was mounted to my vacuum canister bracket that no longer exists on my car, so I needed to fab a new part. I hope to have that squared away soon.

I cannot feel the extinguisher there at all to be honest. It is not in the way of my feet at all. I didn't want to put it on the passenger side because I felt the passengers would be most likely to kick it.

Does it interfere with the cushion extender piece?

It does not effect the movement of the cushion extender at all and the bottom of the fire extinguisher clears the carpet and carpet mat. Full clearance in all directions.

Thanks Laguna. I will need more time for the single since I needed a new mounting bracket for my Stett Oil Cooler thermostat fabricated. The original mount was bolted to the vacuum canister bracket that is no longer on my car. Long story short, I think I should have the the part tomorrow, so I can continue my testing.

Thanks and I apologize, I only noticed your exchange with GeorgiaTech335 after I posted the question. I thought I'd let it hang just in case you were willing to give up a date. Haha.

Thank you for the write up!
Looks great! I have been wanting to put a fire extinguisher in my car for a long time now, but was always afraid of picking the wrong one / not mounting it in a convenient place. I love this mount. Looks just like the ones you see on the Porsche 911's. |

No need to apologize my friend. I try to do things right or not at all, so I am making sure I get all lose ends tied up before the review.

I haven't been able to run the R888s enough yet to develop an opinion but should soon. I will say they are just as quiet as my GSD3s were and I am surprised people call these loud tires.

I honestly haven't had a lot of wheel time since I mounted the tires. I have had a lot to get done with the thermostat bracket, fire extinguisher, FJO wideband on my P3, FJO data on Procede, RPM tap for FJO software, etc. I hope to get some wheel time this weekend and I will report back.
