How many of you have not gotten intake valves cleaned yet?
How many miles do you have, and when is the last time you the them cleaned? Or have you ever gotten them cleaned? i have close to 60k miles, and have never gotten the intake valves cleaned. I am looking for someone to clean them but no one here does. The BMW stealership does not even know what intake valve cleaning was, and a few indys quoted me $1200!!! So im not sure of what to do. I can definitely feel vibrations while im stopped at a light. SO i know i need them cleaned. would it be ok to hold off a few more thousand miles?

i think the vibrations can be coming from a number of things besides valves... but it wont hurt to get it done already... better yet come to vegas, theres a shop that does it for a lot less. pm me if youre really interested in coming

This is not true sir.... If the carbon has been caked on there OP will need nutshell blasting to remove it. Light amount of carbon on the valves can be clean off the valves from Meth, however caked up carbon over a period of time will not be...

I have almost 70k miles, never had my valves cleaned. I am going to get them done soon though. I cringe at the image of what they might possibly look like.

I have about 88k on mine, haven't had it done...yet. It may have been done prior to me owning the car. Either way I have shopped around. Between $200-$350 here. $1200 is crazy. And the dealer should know what you are talking about.

I had mine cleaned at 90K. They were not that bad. If you don't have drivablity issues (I didn't) I don't think its worth it unless you want every last hp out of your car.
I did mine just for that reason and it picked up 10rwhp which is inline with others have seen. The dealers call it a de-carboning process. If you just say walnut shell blasting they get confused. I guess you can charge more for de-carboning then walnut shell blasting..... |

I am at 51,000 miles and have not had my intake valves cleaned. I have been considering getting it done though. Dealer does it for $550 here.
I notice people keep mentioning presence of or lack of drivability issues - what are the particular issues related to dirty intake valves that I should be looking out for? My car seems to be running fine, but it would be good to know what to look out for.

thanks for the replies guys! ya i have no other real issues other than slight vibration at stop. I was going to have it done, and i was willing to pay up to like $500ish, but $1200 is just stupid. As for dealership, i explained to them in several ways, as to what i want done. And my SA looked confused. but then again the dealership here is horrible. And i cant believe a indy would charge that much. its disappointing that indy hourly shop rates around here are like $5 less than what dealer rates are.
