Remove cats from stosk DP's?
As an ex Audi 2.7T twin turbo guy, one (cheap) way to go to catless downpipes was to remove the cats from the stock ones.
Anyone done this? Any reason not to? I'm looking at BMS catless DP's (which are now backordered  ), but I wanted to see if this is a vaible option.

I'm sure anything is possible, but I am not sure if the stock Downpipes are 3" all the way until the exhaust.
I think people swap for aftermarket isto get the 3" pipe. Yes it is reduced at the very end to mesh with the exhaust thats 2.5" but aparently the 3" pipe makes a difference. Who knows how much of a difference though. |

You could do it, but you'd have to cut one of the DPs open to get to the catalyst material. Not only that but the stock pipes are pretty constrictive, even without the catalyst material.
Just as a comparison: Stock:  Active Autowerkes:  I'm not trying to sell you on the AAs or anything just showing you how much better they(or any aftermarket pipe) are. Also, in CA you need to keep the stock ones to swap out for emmisions testing anyway.

It's been done before. However, in hindsight I think most would agree it's just easier to install an aftermarket set and not have to go through so much trouble.
There are other downpipes available if you are ready to buy. |
