Hi all,

I have a 2008 BMW 328i with 85K mile on it. I live in Texas. Untill now I have been using BMW High Performance 100% Synthetic oil only, and I serviced car in BMW dealerships only.

Recently one of my colleauges (also have a BMW car) recommended me to move to Motul oil. He said it approved by BMW and actually exceeds a Castrol oil used by BMW dealerships in US.

Is it true? Did anybody here use it and what's the feedback. Is it really safe to use Motul 8100 X-cess 5W-40. I am planning to keep the car for a long-long time (10+ years) - wanna keep it for my kid.

There is an old saying you may have heard... "If it's not broken, don't fix it" I've never heard of Motul, but I know the high performance synthetic oil is recommended by BMW for BMW's. Maybe someone has some good insight into Motul here, but I wouldn't risk my engine for a few dollars every year.

Motul 8100 X-cess supposedly exceeds the BMW oil in quality and could probably do a better job for the car's engine. If I wasn't planning to keep the car I'd probably didn't even bother, but I really want to keep the car as I mentioned.

I use this oil in my 911 and its a very popular oil in the Porsche community, especially the track guys as they prefer it over M1 and Castrol. It does meet the requirements of some of the German auto manufacturers. Ive gone back and forth with this and M1 0w-40 with no issues. Havent tried it in my 328 yet, but plan to on my next oil change.

You might want to try the bob is the oil guy website for more information on it if your into things such as viscosity, pour point, ball bearing tests etc etc

What kind of issues or results are you expecting? Its oil......unless you use vegetable oil, your car will be good. Any synthetic oil will do or even none-synthetic if you change it every 3k

The results and feedback on how engine runs on particular oil might be seen after say 100k miles or more.

Pick good oil and you are all set.

I have always used Motul oil for my race cars, and know many people that use Motul for their performance cars, it isnt cheap as much as i know compared to Castrol, I believe its like double the price or so.

I would go for it if your willing to chip out the extra cash for some good oil for your car.

I know people that use dyno oil and race.

I'd like my car to last at least to 300k miles... So I thought for that I would need a really-really good oil.

300K for e90....good luck you will be the first

I mean you can get any car to 300k, its just after some point a new car will be cheaper then repairs.

I am almost positive that even for 300k miles, oil makes little difference (any good oil will do). I would be more worried about every other part in the car, tranny, braking system, electronics, power steering, etc.

I had cars with 160-170k that ran on cheap dyno oil from barrels and engines never failed obviously

ps. my dad never changes oil in his cars only adds some....never had engine problems, tranny failed, ABS unit failed, exhaust failed.....engine never

It has same approvals as M1 0w40. Use with confidence but in the end it there's no proof it will perform better vs cheaper LL01 oils. It's not akin to their 300v race oil.
