I'm still tentatively looking for a 335i and I pop on the AUC site every now and then to see what they have to offer (usually over priced if they're post Sept '07).

I spotted this local and was tempted at £14490.

Looked again on the site just now and its up at £17990?!

WTF?! I want to drive past the dealer just to see if they've changed the price on the car itself. Can't believe they'd do that, especially at that mileage.

It does seem a good spec, although the mileage is a little high.

TBH I'm not really surprised by that price, as we know how AUC cars seems to demand a premium (realistic or not). The lower price would be a real surprise to me.

Seems very strong money for one with 65k miles, even if it is AUC. What spec are you looking for Bear?

I wish I'd got a print screen of it now to prove it but I've never seen that before so didn't think to.

Mike: It's whittling down to now pretty much just being post Sept '07 to avoid the higher tax bracket. I'd prefer a black one, and did want Nav and Bluetooth. DCT would be nice but I've snoozed and loosed. The DCTs now are to close to M3 money.

if i ran the AUC site, i'd monitor traffic to individual units and when something was getting above avg. views have that probably trigger a price increase..

Just nipped by and it's gone from where it was on the forecourt. Not replaced by anything.

Maybe the wrong price was put on the AUC site in the first place.

I think the higher price is about right for AUC.

There is a 2006 SE model at the bottom of the page with a far lower spec and still almost £14k.

I'll be amazed if it sold for nearly £18K, I paid £19k for my 08 AUC, with near identical spec but only 31k on the clock nearly 18months ago....I doubt very much my car would fetch £15k if I was to sell up now.

Prices have been going up for a while. Also a car at a main dealer is always going to be far more expensive than your private sale.

We, as in the company, has just bought a 520 GT. While at the dealers, the salesman said they monitor how many hits a car gets and sometimes adjust the price accordingly.
Good. Late 335i's are rare and go for strong money. always have.

That happened with one I was looking at too - this one looks the spitting image of mine! (apart from 19's)

Also, don't write off a more expensive taxed one - it's an additional 200/300 a year which is nothing for the right car, plus the premium you won't have to pay will most likely cover (depending on how long you intend to keep)

Yeah I've thought that tbh. It's a fair few years you'd have to own it for the tax to make up the difference.

I think even though the running costs are higher it is definitely worth it.

Very simple answer to why he price has changed is due to the fact tht it was incorrectly administered when he ad was creted due to the fact that VAT had been omitted from the ad, I used to sell cars nod do he websites for the dealerships I worked for, if you when the ads created to not click the correct box then and I suspect in this case it's happened it'll remove the VAT content from the advertised price, which is nigh on £3k.

Its obviously been spotted someone's gone back on to the site and ticked the box which has bought the price back up to where they'd orginally set it out to be.

If that is true, then why would turkeys vote for Christmas and a dealer charge more for a car than he wants to and the extra cash all goes to the VAT man.

When you select the car on the systems you can select VAT Qualifying you'll still see the headline price but you'll notice the VAT Q status I think on BMW's site noted it'll still be the same price but people who can benefit from a car thats a qualifying car can easily earmark one from one that's not meaning that they can benefit from the cars qualifying status. I don't know how or what format you load up the prices on BMW's site it may roll the price down when VAT's added I don't know or someone could of divided the £17995 figure by 1.20% (VAT rate) which equates to £14995, but it'll explain the jump as such, but its not £3500 so perhaps while amending the status they also re jiggled the price to reflect what they wanted for the car either that or perhaps it had a bigger prep bill than the sales department had calculated.

Ex BMW UK and Dealer Demo's will benefit from this status for instance but a privately owned car of course won't. You pay margin VAT on the difference between the cars purchase price and what it was sold at, but how this works and how you can manipulate this in terms of over allowing on a part exchange is another subject for another topic.

Sadly I've not spoken to any turkeys re how they'd like to vote, suspect though hat like the VAT man Christmas isn't their favourite subject.

Theres a rule in retail where if a customer wants to purchase something which was incorrectly priced and the price difference was to large to offer a discount you would have to take the product (and maybe others exactly like it) off the display for 24 hours.

Maybe pricing mistake was made and a customer went in and cause a huge fuss over it.
My explanation of the rule might be wrong and I don't know how that would work with car sales
