I don't want to clutter up the forum with threads that aren't relevant or duplicates but this forum is kinda slow anyway so....

I got my JBD today. I'm planning on installing it later. Any gotchas or caveats I should watch out for? I've been trying to find out how to remove the engine cover because that seems like the most challenging part of the mod but everything I find talks about the 335i which is different from our engines.

Should I leave it at the default setting or should I turn it up before trying it out?

Any tips/advice would be appreciated.

Engine cover is no problem with a hex tool. You have to remove a little plastic piece from the stock harness. From there plug and play. Put the unit somewhere out of the way with a zip tie. I put my unit somewhere I could easily adjust it.

I tried 100% and got codes. Dropped it down 5% or so per run, until no more codes. I"m guessing that was about 85%. Mine is off the car now for the winter. Figure I don't need extra torque in the snow.

Make sure you zip tie the plugs together. If some how engine vibration disconnects those plugs, your car will be in big trouble.

Plug it and go. Seriously, make sure the sensors connector and JBDs snaps with a little clip. Zip tie the JBD so it sits secure, preferably on the cold side of the engine.

All installed. I got the cover off without too much of a problem, but I could not get the rear left screw back in. Not sure what is going on there. It just won't get threaded for some reason. Not a big deal as the other 4 went back in just fine.

I zipped tied it and I think it's all good. Do I need to be concerned about heat near the wire connectors? They're just sitting on the engine block there. Seems like a less than ideal place for them. And where the heck is the adjustment dial? I couldn't find it anywhere.

My cover was missing the rear screw already, I guess the dealer must have removed it at some point and couldn't get it back in either

You need a small screwdriver to open the JBD. It's a little potentiometer inside. You can adjust it however you like and then turn it down if you get any codes. Hopefully you have a scan tool or the tool that BMS sells.

I was trying to be on my best behavior with my wife in the car tonight since I'm just getting used to the extra power. I thought I was doing a pretty good job but my wife still said "why are you driving so fast tonight?" I guess it works.

I noticed that my dealer cross threaded the rear left torx screw for the engine cover when I got it back from service a while ago. Make sure you have the screw at an angle as this is how it is mounted (follow the angle of the indentation on the left). If it doesn't go in, it's not the end of the world, especially if you aren't getting any funky rattles.

That was it. I needed to angle the screw.

How to I adjust the power? Where's the dial?

Great; glad it worked.

Remove the two Phillips head screws on the box and you will see the (small blue & white) potentiometer referenced in the above post by DSB. Use a small flathead screwdriver to turn the dial to your preferred setting & enjoy. Make sure that the ECU is asleep before adjusting (this may be an unecessary precaution, but I prefer erring on the side of caution).

I got a Service indicator today. Should I be concerned? My service mileage notice says 1800. Is that typical to get the service notice so soon? I have the code reader but I haven't used it yet.

I emailed Burger and they said that the codes were probably unrelated and said I should clear them and see if they come back. If they do, I should pull the JBD and clear them again and see. I cleared them and my car still says Service at startup (I verified that there are no codes) so maybe my car is due?

They also said that they couldn't figure out what the codes mean either, so I'm not sure what that means...

How many miles on your car? Maybe it's due for an inspection.

Service.

I've got 41000k miles. Inspection not due til 4/2013. I checked the OBC to see the dates of various services but nothing is soon.

Maybe I'm just making something out of nothing? It might have been just a coincidence that my service notice appeared a couple of days after installing the JBD. I'll just check the codes periodically and troubleshoot from there. But why can't I figure out what those codes mean?

After clearing the codes, they didn't come back. The service light is still on but I suspect it has to do with my brakes. My indie mechanic who knows his stuff said that's what it was and he's very good.
