No CD Track Name Details from 6 Disc Auto Changer. Normal??
Hi All
I have the 6 disc CD auto changer option on my E92 and would like to know if it has less display features compared to the CD drive in the dashboard. I do not get any CD Track Name details displayed on the iDrive display for CDs being played from the 6 disc CD changer? However, those CDs played from the in dash mounted CD drive, display full details about the CD Track Name. Does anyone know if this is correct for the 6 disc CD changer to be limited in this way? Many thanks; LRS

I also have the 6 disk CD Changer.
I know mine will display the name/info of MP3 files. I don't have any commercial music CDs that list the song name, so I only see "Track 1, Track 2, etc" AFAIK the changer displays and plays all the same formats as the In-Dash unit. Last edited by fer360; 08-17-2007 at 06:14 PM.. |

The feature's called "CD Text" and neither the head unit nor the changer (to the best of my knowledge) has it. I was disappointed, since it seems like a really easy feature to include.

Thanks, tintivilus.
I was wondering myself if the system could display the additional data. Most of my CDs are either older or are remasters of old songs that wouldn't have the CD text, anyway, but its still good to know for future purchases. An easy test to see if the CD Text data is encoded on the CD is to open the music CD in iTunes and see if the album art and song title of each track loads. |

I just got in the habit of including CD-Text on disks I burned from iTunes (there's a checkbox in settings) becuase my old Eclipse head unit supported it. I was rather surprised when I found that my e92 didn't display anything. |

I've used Nero to burn CD audio tracks & have used the CD Text function in the software without any problem. Infact, Nero will try to identify a CD in the PC drive & automatically fill out the CD Text information by itself. I've not tried any CD Text-encoded CDs in the multi-changer though, mainly because I tend to burn mp3/wma discs these days, rather than use normal audio CDs. You can download a trial version of Nero 7 Premium Reloaded here. LRS, if the multi-changer is unable to decode CD Text-enabled CDs, then I suggest you start 'ripping' the CD tracks you want & burn them as mp3 compilations onto CD. The likes of Winamp will do this for you without any problem. All the best. Viv |

When you say "head unit," do you mean the CD in the dash? If so, mine does it and it sounds like the OP's does, too (he has the problem with the changer only). I don't have a CD changer, so can't comment on that.

Do you have iDrive? or is mine just horked somehow? I've never actually tried with the changer; that was just based on what i've heard going around. edit: This hasn't really been too big an issue, though; I've switched to making mp3 CD's as vivekk suggested above. |

I, too, have switched to MP3 CDs, because with CD Text, you have to actually play the song to see the info. With MP3s, you can see all the titles while another song is playing, and choose from there. Much more useful.

Either way my older CDs don't show anything, iTunes or changer. Too bad BMW can't use the Sat link to download any internet data available. Now that would be a cool feature- if it was free, of course. You quickly get spoiled by song info on MP3s. I prefer the sound quality of CD audio over MP3. I'm no audiophile, but even I can appreciate the difference. The quality of compressed files isn't so bad that I wouldn't switch over all my music in time, though. |

Huh; that's interesting. I don't have iDrive, but even the standard (well, Logic7 in my case) stereo supports navigating mp3 CDs on the two-line display. I would think that CD-Text display would be a lot easier to implement than file system browsing and id3 tag parsing for mp3 disks regardless of the display.

Hi All
I have been doing some double checking over the weekend. I played an AC/DC CD in the dash CD player and it displayed the name of each track as it played. I then put this same CD into the 6 CD Auto-changer and it did not display the track names. I tried this on two other CDs and the same thing happened – in dash player displayed the track names; auto-changer did not. There no doubt in my mind that there is a difference between the in dash and auto-changer CD players. This is not good as I believe there should not be a difference! They don't tell you that in the manual! LRS

Dinkoh
It is very CD dependant, those that have the track information imbedded and those that do not. Dinkoh, Do you have an auto-changer in the trunk? If yes, could you try the following? Try finding a CD that displays track name titles while in the indash player and then try it in the auto-changer. Do you still get the track name titles while the CD is in the auto-changer? Thanks and let me know. LRS
