328 has 3 stage intake with 2 DISA valves.

I thought it didnt have it according to bmws tech manuals
but a bmw tech informed me of this...

"Well good news, I had to do another knock sensor on an E90 328 today (seems like its gonna be a common thing) and took a closer look, it has the three stage intake with 2 DISA valves, and its a three liter, so I think there is some software tuning, exhaust and other mods that will awaken this motor, time wil tell"

i don't think it has a 3 stage intake. Not sure what DISA is, but here's what i've found.

Our cars have a 3.0L DOHC 24-valve I6 engine-inc: double-VANOS variable valve timing and Valvetronic

Here, check this out:

The 330i N52 has a three-stage differentiated air intake system (DISA) with two DISA actuator motors.

Thanks Michael, that link definitely cleared it up!

I just took a look at the intake manifold on mine, and i don't see the actuator, so I'm pretty sure we don't have them. It would've been nice, but wishful thinking...

can anyone else with a 328 confirm whether the 3 stage intake manifold with DISA is present or not? It seems it definately was a 328

Yeah, he was pretty sure but after looking up the technical specs, the 328 is not supposed to have the 3 stage intake manifold. So there is a discrepency somewhere. It would be nice if someone else with a 328i could check and could confirm.

I believe you can look at the pictures of the 3 stage from a 330i in this thread and compare them to your intake manifold. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37444

Thanks for looking... I guess it could not have been a 328i, really disappointing. After reading dinan's white paper, its looking like converting the 328i to the higher output specs is not going to happen anytime soon given the complexity of bmw's ecu's unless of course bmw offers something from their new performance parts division.

Ok looks like the regular 328 doesn't have it but the N51 super low emissions version or whatever its called had it on one car. So this seems even more odd.
Does anyone with the N51 328i care to check their intake manifold??

here is some info on N51

In order to comply with SULEV requirements, the N51 is
another variant of the N52
engine. There are various measures to meet the
EPA/CARB standards, some of which
are familiar from the previous SULEV (M56) engine.
Some of the SULEV measures for the N51 include:
• Near engine catalyst with additional underbody
catalyst
• Secondary air system
• Optimized combustion chamber geometry in cylinder
head
• Modified piston crown for lower compression
• Plastic valve cover with integrated crankcase vent
valve and separator (from N52KP)
• Stainless steel fuel lines with threaded connections
• Radiator with “Prem-air” coating
• Throttle system - EGAS08 carried over from N52KP
• Airbox with Activated carbon filter for EVAP control
• Purge system pipes are made from “optimized” plastic
Crankcase Ventilation N52KP and N51
The crankcase ventilation system on the N52KP and N51
uses a crankcase ventilation
valve which is incorporated into the cylinder head
cover. Oil is separated via an internal
labyrinth which is also incorporated into the cylinder
head cover.
This system, like the N54, also benefits from the
integral components. This design
allows engine heat to warm the crankcase vapors which
decreases the likelihood of any
moisture freezing in the system during conditions of
low ambient temperature.

The 2009 328i e92 did not come from the factory with the 3Si manifold in the U.S., as well as the DME software was "dumbed-down" in order to comply with EPA laws. However, the wiring harnesses for both DISA valves are present in the engine bay. This means that the 3Si manifold can be installed. I know because I did the mod on my 09 328i.

If you do install one, I highly recommend you also flash the DME with the Bimmergeeks 328i to 330i software to fully activate the Disa valves. There's instructions to do this on their website.
