Nice.......i would still love a 5D and an arsenal of L series lenses. Whats the difference between the 1D and the 1Ds?

s means it's a full-frame sensor, so there is no field of view crop. The sensor size is the same as a traditional 35 mm camera.

1D is very fast, 10 pics per sec and 10.1 megapixel. Its kind of Canons action cam. Crop 1.3.

1Ds is not that fast, 5 pics per sec, but 21.1 megapixel and full frame

But I still think I'd like the 5D with L lenses over the new 40D.

^^^ yea in my photo shop/ intermediate photography class tonight i looked the part about the 1Ds being 21.1 mega pixels and the guy next to me and I were both like WTF!!!!!!!!!!! 21.1 MP and full frame!!!

I've been waiting for the 40D. My 300D is still perfectly capable of greatness, but some of its limitations have become apparent as get more experienced.

......Canons line of SLR's get "better" as the number decreases. So the 1D is ultimate, while the 400D is far inferior to it.

That makes sense .... thats why my 350D (Rebel Xt) is the worst.

Actually its a great camera but I think Im starting to out grow it. Would the 40D be a good upgrade or should I suck it up and get the 5D ??? I was trying to compare them on Canons website but there is no side by side comparison option that I saw.

On the 5D you really need to use Canon L lenses, but on the 40D you can use the EF-S lenses, so the 5D will definently be a much more expensive upgrade.

Yes exactly, the guys who are carrying 1D's and 5D's around have probably been into photography for a bit now and most certainly are using top notch lenses and other equipment. It'd be like buying a BMW but putting hub caps on........you really shouldnt haha. Im personally trying to save up for a canon 17-40mm L series lens to accompanying my Rebel XTI (the black one), hopefully sometime soon i can get that baby. I've been debating between that or a oem front lip........i figured i get more use out of the lens then a lip and im more fascinated with photography and the potential of that lens then a front lip.

Hey remmib, you should know that it was your "night shots" thread that finally inspired me to get a dslr and start the journey of learning everything i could about photography (which takes years and years).

The 5D is still much better. Full frame vs crop. 12.8MP vs 10.1MP, though the average person will not even require anything close to that.

The 40D does have a nice big LCD monitor.

Canon EF 70-200 2.8L IS
Canon EF 16-35 2.8L.
Nice Carbon Fiber Tripod too.

Those lenses are the bread and butter of a lot of automotive guys

i recomend getting a 50mm prime lens, canons $100 one. Also, I highly recomend you skip the EF lenses and just put that money towards a nice L series lens

If they have the L in the end of their name and the red ring, they sure are L lenses.
