Megane Renaultsport 230 Renault F1 Team R26

What do you lot think if these things ?

230hp and 310nm

Limited Slip Differential, Brembo brakes with drilled discs front and rear, recaro seats

All for £19,860.00 or £ 331 month over 48 months at 0% finance with a £ 3,972 deposit.

It sounds like a bit of a laugh to me.

Mmm... I wouldn't buy one.

I'm sure they're fun though. Ideal for a track day...

Why would you not buy one ?

At this price I could see myself happily tracking one.

You have a very good point

The fact that it is made by renault is a bit of a downside and since it's also a megane that could be terminal.

But ... it's about as quick as a 300i and you can drive around in it like your hair is on fire.

NFS - when I hear the words "Renault Megane" all I can think about is Alan Partridge when he phoned his ex-wife Carol fromn the Linton Travel Tavern to read her an exert from Top Gear magazine about the aforementioned French heap of shite.

I quote:
"With a mere ninety break-horse-power available, progress is too leisurely to be called fast, but on the motorway in fifth gear the Megane's slow pace really becomes a pain. Uphill runs become power-sappingly mundane, while overtaking National Express coaches can become a long, drawn-out affair. Not my words, Carol. The words of Top Gear magazine. Hello?"

and out there in the real world they known as 'ass-mobiles' - now this could be something to do with being a gay car, OR the huuuuuggge rear end it has

personally i think its a bit of both

No comparison to a BMW....

.....but in its own right as a hot hatch, it one of the best out there, and not to be sniffed at

It drives well, but is too harsh for UK daily drives, the interior random.. rear seats don't match front ones! Plastic wings to lower weight are cheap ad flex.

It will depreciate, so if you want one for tracking buy used and have lots of fun.

I had a Mazda6 MPS which was a refined Impreza-esque car... miss it now, apart from the fuel economy.

There's nothing wrong with plastic front wings......I think I've got them on mine! BMW state in that they save weight?

I've had 7 bmws:

e36 318i
e46 323ci
e46 318i touring
e46 320cd
e46 320cd msport
e60 530d

In terms of the renault - it's a major reworking of a fundamentally basic and pretty crap car.

So you have around £8k's worth of performance parts fitted to a £12K family hatch. The result is apparently akin to making a silk purse out of a sows ear.

Evo Magazine highly rated it ... and it would seem to be the hottest hot hatch on the market.

I meant the plastic wings on the Renault are cheaper quality and do flex a lot.

Either way in its own right it is a fantastic hot hatch. If I was in the market though a GTI would be better allrounder. And if you want a track car, then surely there is much more track-specific choice.

Essentially you do get a lot of car for your money on less prestige brands. French cars are always well specced too.
