Today's tyre bargain!
I need a new pair of rear tyres anyway, the ones I have on are getting close to the wear bars so it's going to be sometime in the next few weeks that they need changing.
Since changing to non-RFT I've gone through a pair of Falken 452 in just under 10k miles, and a pair of Kumho KU39, also in just under 10k miles. For the record, I've had 'premium' tyres on other cars in the past, and in comparison, the Falkens and Kumhos have been absolutely fine in terms of grip and comfort. I've used Event Tyres for years now, because I find their prices as cheap as anybody else, I love the convenience of the mobile fitting, and without fail, the fitters are competent and careful. I was just browsing the usual suspects this morning though - Camskill, Blackcircles etc - in search of savings and couldn't pass up this offer. Bearing in mind the Falkens and Kumhos are around £140 each, I found Goodyear F1 Assymetric 2 on Blackcircles for £166. Not bad. With 4 clubcard points per £1! So, for only a few quid more than I was going to spend anyway, I've got better tyres, and £1300 worth of clubcard points! Result! Linky

Confused the hell out of me - they had the F1A2 listed twice, once at £166, once at £194. As far as I could tell they were identical, so I went for the cheaper one
It was, possibly, a mistake on their website but I'm sure I saw double listings on Camskill and Event too - no idea why. Edit: Still there - link to search page. scroll down to 'Other Options', then the £166 tyre is there, 4th row on the right hand side.

Last Thursday I got my tyres from event tyres for cheapest price anywhere else. 225/45/17 and 255/40/17 hankook k110. For £408. At the moment I done with them about 150 miles and improvements are much better from RFT. Mpg from 26 up to 33. More quiet. And potholes not that painful as before. Here in Hemel Hempstead it's lots of them. For grip I will update later.

Nice one.
I can second your view on Event Tyres - they are excellent.

I can almost understand it for the tyres that have (for example) a MO stamped version, but it confused the hell outta me otherwise

Grip levels are very good. They always come right up the top of any tyre test. Mine weren't as cheap as Parapaul's though. £700 all round for 19" from camskill but you have to pay for fitting on top. |

Likewise. Mine are absolutely excellent. New tyres are always quieter than worn, but I'm sure that they're quieter than the Falkens or Kumhos. I don't drive hard bacause I've usually got the kids but grip (especially in the recent wet weather) has been nothing short of faultless.
Absolutely worth every penny over the cheaper tyres, they're a definite keeper. I got a pair for the front too, at a similarly good price, and more clubcard points

Yeah you will get 1,300 clubcard points which is equal to £13 of vouchers and as if you had spent £1,300 in Tesco.
You can then convert them to days out or restraunt vouchers worth £52 though! Which does make it worth it. Thake the missus out for a Pizza Express, get in the good books and it has essentially cost you nothing! |

1300 clubcard points are better than none, you got better quality tyres for a wee bit more - win win!
The F1's are the best value all year round tyres I have found. I had a set fitted to my old E39 M5 (ACS5) and found they handled nicely in the wet and dry, with good balance of comfort and road noise. The Michelin PS2's were too expensive for what you were getting in comparison. BTW -Tesco do the merlin passes for £46 of clubcard points so you well on your way... |
