E90 front tyre wear
I'm about to replace my front tyres and I'm wondering if the wear that I'm experiencing in 'Normal' for an E90. These are the second set of Bridgestone RFT's that I've had on from new and the first set wore in exactly the same way.
What's happening is the outside edge of each tyre is wearing, like these ones that are for sale on ebay. I've not measured the tread but there must be a good 4-5mm over the rest on the tyre. If its not normal then I'll get an alignment check done, but if it is just the way the suspension is set up I don't want to waste my time and money. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225-40-18-...0a99411&_uhb=1 |

Clearly needs a setup, hardly a waste of money if it saves you throwing tyres away with 4-5mm on them.

Even though they have worn on the edge and I have loads of tread left I can't complain too much as I've had about 50,000 miles out of them on the front which aint too bad at all. |

That wear seems excessive if you have 4-5mm on the inside.
When I had Falken tyres on mine the outside edge did wear more, but there wasn't the imbalance between inside and outside that you have experienced. Indeed the inside edge also showed wear, almost as if the tyres had been underinflated. The Nokian tyres I replaced the Falkens with seem to wear much more evenly. Since both sets of Flakens I have had on my car(s) wore in the same way I do think the specific tyre has an influence on wear. I know pay much more careful and regular attention to tyre pressures (in case that had been a factor) and I won't be going back to Falkens because of that wear and the excessive tyre noise that resulted. |

The Bridgestones have a tendency to wear unevenly in rft form. Either buy a different brand of run flat or do what I have done and ditch the run flats altogether. It is the best improvement you can make to the car and 4 new tyres will cost less than 2 runflats. Your other 2 you can then sell on.

That's ok, my front Falkens still have about 4 or 5 mm left after 20k, I'm about to put my 3rd set of rears on in the same time.

Mine are also noisy and getting noisier to the point that I may just change them to get away from the droning noise around 50mph! at least 4mm left which is really annoying. At first I thought I had a wheel bearing going. |

My 330d wears it's front tyres nice and flat; granted there is slightly more wear on the outer edge of the nearside front tyre due to roundabouts etc but I'm very pleased.
So I'd say you have an alignment issue.

I had a feeling that it was a common issue. Possibly the 6 cylinder cars wear more evenly due to having a heavier engine? With regards to the 50,000 miles, I mainly drive motorway miles and if it wasn't for the outside edge wear I'm sure that I could get plenty more miles out of them. Although there are plenty of haters for Bridgestone rfts I find that they last well making them reasonable value for money.
