so far the offers i've gotten for a 335 coupe is MSRP and only $500 off MSRP for a regular US delivery. i have no idea how folks are getting 1500 off! any tips to get those sweet deals that i'm missing out on?!

You're in california, it should be a lot easier to get a great deal there.
I have only two dealers within 30 mile radius of me one of them would only offer msrp and free mats and the other I was able to get 1500 off msrp. It just takes a lot of patient and haggling. I did everything over email and basically took me almost one month to get that deal. Be patient, if it doesnt workout you could always do ED.

Trojan, there are tons of dealerships in the bay area and Sacramento. Fax a sales manager (important) or email the internet sales manager from all of them. Tell them that you've contacted multiple dealerships and ask for the best price. Typically, you get responses from half of those you contact. Be honest, 'cause thats only fair, about when you're gonna buy. This is most effective when you are ready to put a deposit down.

If one dealer you've visited was very helpful (like your test drive), or its where you'll have it serviced (them them that), give them the last chance to meet your best price.

You want the dealerships to compete for your business. GL.

Have you used Edmunds yet? They email your quote requests to all surrounding dealerships and they come to you with a fair price. It's worked out great for me so far!

I went from "absolutely no discount, you're paying full MSRP" to "$1370 off, I really want your business..."

those deals were available during the early year, but the demand is so high now, dealers realized that going that low is crazy...

Thanks all for the encouragement. I guess right now they can tell I'm doing my research. I'm planning for an April/May delivery so it's prolly too early to be talking to dealerships. I will continue to whittle away at them. I'm still waiting for some responses.

How do you just respond to the email communication? Do you write to them saying, "I want the car for $xx,xxx, with a drive off of $x,xxx, and a monthly payment of $xxx?" What's your strategy for getting the deal you want?

Personally, I just took a dealership's lowest price, then pinned that against another dealership, then went to a third and so forth.

yeah, i've spec'ed out my coupe with all the options using the msrp/invoice pdf's found elsewhere on this site. should i just send them my numbers like "here's the estimated invoice and msrp, how does 1500 under msrp sound?"

I believe the best and quickest strategy is this. Determine through your research what the low end of the good deal range is for the BMW that you want to buy/lease is. It needs to be doable deal, not goofy low. Go in during the week when they are not busy with the list of options, color, etc, all worked out. Be direct and straightforward. Be friendly and don't waste their time. Tell them if the agree to this number, you place the order right then. Give them a five hundred dollar deposit via charge card. You need to be careful that they don't ding you for extra fees, i.e. Training Fees, etc. This approach works even better at the end of the month.

Great advice. I took a test drive on a Fri. last Oct. When I left, I was told list price. Just to test the waters, I said how about $500 off? No. $400 off? No. Did edmunds.com, one dealership had the b**** to say they don't discuss price without me going in personally, but the rest ranged from $1100 to $1800 off. I called the dealerships who responded to understand their offers and when they had a coupe available. Then I called the dealership where I did the test drive, and they matched $1700 off. It's not rocket science at all.

Try submitting on the internet. I have 2 local dealers. 1 was MSRP 1 was $1700 below MSRP and the 1 over the internet was $2100 below MSRP. The MSRP was $52,450.

it's sooo easy to get $1500 off MSRP it's not even funny. You could probably get $1000 over invoice too. G'luck with your purchase.
