N54 Exhaust Flange CAD drawings

I'm in the process of making a single turbo kit for my 335i. I couldn't find any CAD drawings of the exhaust flanges for free, so I created my own so I could laser-cut some flanges for my new manifold.

You can download the CAD files from my web site, get some flanges cut, and build yourself some manifolds.

Last month I had some cut out of some thicker stainless steel, they turned out pretty good.

Are those not twin turbo manifolds? Twin scroll would have them merge right? Will the manifolds be cast and the merges welded?

Look at the cad screenshot again. The twin scroll flange is on the right. Just looks like he hasn't modeled all the tubing yet.

The manifolds will each have a runner to one side of the twin-scroll flange. The flange in the image isn't divided, but the real one I have at home is.

The flanges were laser cut, but everything else is being built by hand.

Hey Roy, the pic where you assembling the manifold to the runners. Is that Solidworks assembly mode? I'm thinking about switching from Autodesk to Solidworks. I like they way that looks. Nice work.

There are a lot of options. You can look for a used converted Knee mill for around $5,000. The company that makes my cnc machine also makes bench top cnc's, but they will only cut wood, plastics and non farious materials. Most of them will run G-code which is nice bc there are a lot of 2d options that are open source. I use Inventorcam. It runs native in Autodesk, full 3d, 2d/2.5d but was expensive.

I have nothing to comapre the two assembly modes to bc I have never tried Solidworks, but I will tell you that when I took parametric modeling in college, and I was able to assmeble parts in about an hour, even build a BOM file and what not. It's fairly intuative. Maybe I can post a screen shot of it and we can compare? I have no idea other than just messing with it for an evening.

If you have a student ID number you can get a free Educational seat of Autodesk for 3 years. I don't even think that you need to be in school. Mine's almost up, so I am thinking about switiching to Solidworks.

I had to use both solidworks and inventor in college and inventor was easier for somethings and solidworks was better for others. Now I use NX at work. They're all really similar and just sort of boils down to your preference honestly.

Our Formula SAE team uses Solidworks. Its.....OK, but not my favorite. I've also used Creo/ProE in industry. We're switching to NX next year. How do you like it?

Nice! We've got these flanges in stock, along with the correct inserts so you can use factory style donut seals that go into the head!
