335 ONLY
How much oil burn have you had, please only vote if you Have checked it recently, if you've had it changed obviously the mileage is from that point (provided it was filled up then) personally i changed @ 2k miles (it was still max then) filled it to max, im @ about 5k now and its been going down pretty steady and right above min now /sigh obviously f you havent gone from max to min all the way just estimate (like from max to half in 3k miles then max to min in 7k would be you) |

I know the worst possible thing to do is turn this into a "break in method" thread... but I followed the "motoman" break-in method (vary RPMs up to 5.5k and lots of engine braking, up and down hills), which basically is designed to prevent oil burn by sealing the rings early on with all that up and down preasure. Not sure if its a load of !#@$ , but it worked for me... no burn... and I run the thing HARD

luck of the draw i guess... i hear a lot about oil consumption on the 335, then I see plenty of people like myself who have zero consumption for over 5k miles, which is around when I will change it anyway...

It is quite sensitive to the position of the car. I had to stay several minutes in a downhill and ended up with low oil level warning and looking at the oil level meter it showed below the minimum. Few minutes later at level it showed maximum. So, see that your car is on level when checking the oil level.

Never got down to min. Got it topped off when it was down to half - twice so far with an out of pocket oil change in between before scheduled oil change. First time around 5k IIRC.

Max to min in first 5k miles, changed at 6k and no loss/burn since [now at 12k]. So there was an initial burn period that seems to have stopped.

ur choices dont give the option for only small amounts of oil loss. I went from max to min at about 6k miles. but when i took it into the shop to bitch, it was only about a quart low. meh, i thought i was out of oil issues after getting out of the S4. have to see where this one goes.

These oil burn "issues" aren't really issues guys. Burning 1 quart of oil every
5K miles is nothing for any internal combustion engine. Most of the 335's I see at the dealer here go 7-10K miles before needing oil but they're sensitive to how you drive them. Drive them hard and you will burn more oil. Also, the manuals seem to use more oil than the autos due to more time spent engine braking which draws higher vacuum on the crankcase ventilation system. BMW says maximum oil burn is 1 quart every 750 miles.........now that's a little excessive IMO but that's the spec. Bottom line, adding a quart every 5K miles is more than acceptable and nothing to worry about. Ask some of the M5/M6 owners how often they have to add oil.........most of them get a quart every 2K miles or so.
