I finally had some time to flip through Grassroots Motorsports mag and I saw an ad for race gas that you can make yourself with ordinary pump gas. The company states if completely different from octane boosters. It sounds promising and interesting.

Has anyone heard or tested this yet here?

They have some dyno charts online to validate their claims, idk

How is Race GasTM different than octane boost products?

First, octane boosters only add a few points of octane and cannot raise the octane of pump gas to that of racing fuel. What many people don't know is that a point of octane is 1/10 of an octane number. For example, if an octane booster says it raises octane by 9 points and it is blended with 87 octane fuel the final octane number will be 87.9 not 96.
Second, octane boosters will raise the octane they don't increase the chemical energy of pump gas. This is because they are not adding the high quality fuel aromatics that are used in Race Gas. As a result your engine will not "ping" but it will not generate as much power as it would using Race Gas.

More than likely will require the use of Toluene. It was used as race gas in formula one back in the 80's and used to be the cheap mans race fuel/ocatane boost back then till around 2005. It is no longer cheap anymore as a gallon now cost close to $25 at Sherwin Williams unless you have a corporate account.

If you look at the breakdown of most race gases out there they will more than likely contain a good deal of toluene. I've experimented with it before and have had great results with it, but I don't recommend running it as a daily driver car fuel as it is known to dry out seals. Not to mention if you get it on your cars paint.

That price you mentioned is spot on, they say 8oz of their stuff for every gallon of regular pump gas you have. That doesn't seem bad at all, I might give it a try in the future.

I looked up their product, it looks like they also add MMT or Methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl. It's an effective octane booster, but is known to foul up plugs and cats. It probably works as advertised, but I wouldn't run it every day. I'd only run it at the strip or track.
