So how do you guys wash the engine bay, guess power wash is a little too much, any advice? Any products to use at all?

I just cover the open filters with plastic bags. Lightly spray the engine with water. Generously hit it with Gunk engine cleaner and let it sit for a couple minutes. The spray the crap out of it with a hose.

Honestly I don't even use plastic bags, I just spray down with degreaser and turn the hose on a light setting to rinse it. Just be careful to not hit electrical connectors with a more powerful hose setting. I've been doing this for years and detail cars for a part time job, never had issues. Then I touch up all the plastic with a vinyl/plastic dressing

If you have an open intake, cover it with plastic, if not dont worry about it. Spray on some simple green, or other degreaser, scrub with a soft bristle brush, and rinse. I then run the engine with the hood open to dry it.

I don't even bother.

I'd rather have it dirty than to possibly mess up some electrical connector in the long run.

FWIW, I wipe whatever is in reach with a towel and some quick detailer. It's mostly plastic cover pieces anway.

Did this on the weekend.

Sprayed some degreaser... Got into all the nooks and crannys with a brush and let it sit for a while. The I used a light spray on the hose to wash the suds away.

cover the alternator/intake with bags, use a hose to spray the engine (i use a wider spray pattern, no pressure washer), spray some degreaser and clean the engine, then hose off and dry. It can be a little scary the first time thinking you'll mess something up, but you will be fine.

I cover the electrical parts (generator etc) with plastic bags and then use the garden hose to wash loose sitting dirt. Then spray some engine cleaning fluid/degreaser on the engine, wait for few minutes and then spray with garden hose. Let it dry. Then apply/spray plastic restorer on the plastic covers. You are done.

I spray the entire engine and all components with gunk or purple power and pressure wash on a setting of 25 and make sure to keep it 1-2 feet away from the engine. Been doing it for years with my high end German cars, never had any issues.

that has been sort of my philosophy so far )) but then again, i believe you need some sort of balance between the dirt accumulating all over the place and ruining the parts and washing it too often and ruining smth...

Gently wash with degreaser and/or soap every 6 months. Cover open air filter if you have it and don't go nuts on the connectors and spark plug area. 214k miles on my Lexus, no problems at all with it. Been doing the same with me 330 and no issues there either.

I soak it with Simple Green and wait 5 minutes. Then spray it off with the hose. Works great and doesn't destroy the grass when it runs off the driveway.

The dealer sprayed the greasy engine shine shet all over. 10 months later the engine is an air filter trapping what dust and dirt blows through. Im going to do an engine clean so that it is clean and not glossy. Ill spray degreaser, hose & air blast.

Use a water-based dressing that becomes dry to the touch on the plastic to help preserve it and keep it looking good. Oil/solvent based dressings attract a lot more dust, dry out plastic, and are greasy.
