vented hood with Dci?
Hi guys,
I don't know if it happen to you guys, buy after bimmerfest I just feel like modding again. So right now I planning on putting Jb4 and DCi as running option. But my car has a vented hood, so I just want to make sure before I do it. Does anyone had experience with DCI under vented hood? Will the water spit on it and will it influence it! If yes, what other option do I have with JB4, I know intake is very important in turns of performance. Thx in advance Jason BTW, this is how the vent located on my hood. actually intake is not very important in terms of performance on these cars - at least until you start making pretty decent hp numbers.
Not sure if there would be issues with a vented hood. but you could just go the k&n drop in filter route. |

I already have JB4 so DCI will be a good next step? what's the difference between DCI and the K&N filter? |

You will get water if its over the DCI, its not good it will remove the oils from the filters and the car can take in water if in heavy rain.
if you want the best of both worlds get a MR.5 intake with the vented hood

Get the AFE Stage 2 SI Closed Intake Box, Problem solved.
I would not run open filters with an open / ventilated hood. One could argue you would need a good amount of water to cause a problem and they are right. But, why go through all that? |

Have vented hood and ran with dci for about a year. Never had any problems but its pretty dry in this area. I now run stock exhaust cuz I grew tired of the swoosh noise. Plan to eventually run mr5 but for now, I'm back to stock.

Why don't we all think about this logically for a minute. People run scoops and stock intake box through raging down pours with no issues, yes? I know I have, and with zero issues. I've even been directly behind vehicles just throing buckets of water from their tires at my front bumper, and still no issues.
Now, what makes you think the small amount of rain theough a vented hood would be worse? As for filter oils, buy dry filters. Problem solved. |
