Please help!!!! Question about used KW v3.
Hi, so I bought this set of kw v3 from a forum member. In case I am not ripped off, can anyone tell me how can I identify its for E92 RWD or not? He does not have the box.
Also, how do i know its in good condition or not. I will pose pic later. But I really need some information first. Please help me out but please don't mislead me if you are not sure. Thx Jason update: this is the damage on it. will it influence the suspension? here is some more detail pic of the suspension: Last edited by jasonlu; 05-24-2013 at 11:54 PM.. |

It is for e9x-non M but I am not sure if KW made difference spring rate for e91/e93/e92.
One more thing, the rear shocks may need rebuild.

Is better rebuild by pros but you may search the Internet on how to rebuild shocks and see if you can buy the necessary parts/oil from KW. Btw, you better rebuild all corners together Remember to recycle the oil! .

I wouldn't worry about the plastic piece. Even if you install a new one, few months down the road it will look the same.
Not all shocks rebound by themselves. I would just test by hand and see if they feel ok. How many miles on them? KW dampers are very robust and should last long time. |

Bad info in this thread.... v2 and v3's don't necessarily rebound by themselves. I know, I've held v3, v2, and v1's brand new in my hands. Don't worry about the bump stop dust cover, they're like 10 bucks from KW if you really wanted a new one.
If I were you I'd take a powerwasher to those threads to get the grime off. It won't hurt the coilover at all but it may save you some agony in the future if you want to adjust your height. Seller should have been nice and cleaned them better.

I don't recommend power washing the struts as you could put undue pressure on the seals if you get too close. just use a sponge and soapy water, dry, then lube the threads with antiseize.
On the rear adjuster power washing would be safe since the shocks are separated. |

At last, use micro fiber to rub until they are dry. That will be fine right? |

as long as they weren't in for a LONG time you'll be fine, good thing you got kw and not st in this case. after you wash them see if there are any leaks, it'll indicate the signs of a blown shock and it'll need to be rebuilt for sure. I was going to tell you to test the compression but it seems someone else here said that for kwv3s that's not an accurate test

I just put them inside the water then take it out. It was in there for less than a minute. No leak sign when I am putting them back to the box. You mean water leak from the gap of the shock?
