Can you negotiate money factor in a lease?

Looking to lease soon and wanted to know becuase my bro lease the 335i four months ago and it was at 200, I just checked with another dealership and it went to 270. That's a huge difference in monthly payments.

Not through BMWFS -- they set the money factor and residual, and the dealer has no control over it. Push for a bigger discount from the dealer, or shop around other places that write auto leases (banks, lease-shops, etc.)

I believe that the MF is at .00275 (6.6%) effective through October 31st. And people think that it will drop Nov 1, so a lot of people who are supposed to take delivery end of Oct are trying to delay it so they can sign the contract Nov. No idea of how much it is going to drop if indeed it does drop.

Yes within the preset MF and what the dealer marks up.

the dealer can mark up the base MF by 0.00040

Guess I should've clarified -- yeah, the dealer can mark it up  but they can't go below what the sheets from BMWFS say...

this is what i did. I ordered my car in March 07 for early May delivery.
i applied for and got approval from BMWFS with the March Program. That locks your rates in for 60 days following the end of that month. In my case my rate lock was good till the end of May.

if a better program came out, my dealer would give me the better rate. if a worse program came out, i was locked in at the lower rate.

i would lock in the rates now, and see how the programs develop. worse case you get this month's rate. best case is, it drops between now and then and you get the lower rate. i would see if your dealer will agree to buy rate on the MF regardless of the program. you may need to give a concession depending on the market, like, markup on the acq fee or something.

Not to state the obvious, but what was the total amount financed? Leasing is much like buying in that you should FIRST negotiate the overall price of the vehicle THEN decide how to pay (cash, lease, traditional finance, bartering your first born son, etc). If one dealer was charging you more for the actual selling price of the vehicle than the other dealer, that can affect the lease payment. Also, $200 for a lease payment seems very low. What are the terms? Miles allowed over the term and length of term are all significant factors in a lease payment. Generally the longer the term and lower the miles allowed, the lower the payment.

Damn, I just got back from the dealership and the money factor was .00225. for a 335i with only sports package, my monthly payment with 2000 down was about 560 for an 07. 615 for an 08. hmmmm.....

If I could get it down to .00165, that'd be GREAT!

Is the money factor rate national or depends on region? I went to two different dealers and got 270 and 295. I know that the 07s get the cheaper 200 because bmw wanted to unload them before 08 arrives. I heard the feds just cut the rates so I'm wishfully thinking that bmw will lower the mf closer to 200.

security deposite do not go towards the car... and it is refundable... its just that they hold on to your money during the lease... but it does lower the MF by 0.007? or seomthing like that per security deposite point

total of 7 SD = 0.049
each SD point = round up of your monthly payment to the nearest $50

you can google each month's MF (i think they post it on bimmerfest) and dealer CAN mark up the MF by a certain amount. so thats why not all MF is the same.

Deal Closed

Sweet. I've got a 2008 BMW 335i.

3/36 Lease - OTD (No down, Taxes/Fees rolled in) - $870/mo.

It's no 3K off MSRP like some of those Cali buyers are getting, but I'm satisfied.

Now, to get behind the wheel....

PM me if you want more details if you're looking to buy in the Texas area.

Scroll down. The Sept base rate on a 335i Coupe is .00200 for 24 or 36 months. The sedan is .00175. Dealers can add on up to 4 points, so you can try to negotiate.

Believe this also gets posted on bimmerfest.com somewhere. Read up over there on multiple security deposits and the like, too.

Oct rates should be up by Monday.
