jb4 map 1 vs 5 revisited
Having read lots of posts about this I thought i'd revisit for a current debate.
I was held to a stalemate racing a Focus RS. I was running jb4 map 5 with no other mods. My only comfort was that he said his car got light and shaky xxx mph whereas mine felt planted as ever andd wanted to pull further. Thoughts on whether or not I should have still out accelerated him. It wasn't a one off spurt either. we had like 5 goes at each other going down to the Goodwood Festival of Speed. |

It depends what kind of power he has.
Standard v standard there is a reasonable gap. The Focus is 0-60mph in 5.9secs and 100mph coming up in 14.2. The 335i is 5.4 and 12.4 for a manual car. Standard guys are usually around 14.3-14.5@101-102mph. With the RS. A 335i will be in the 13s between 103-106mph. Some of the tuned ones are posting high terminal speeds. The times aren't that great though. Still mid 13s with 400bhp. They must be struggling badly to get the power down then quick on the move. There is 335i well into the 12s with similar power. |

standard vs standard they are almost identical in a straight line, the 335i gets off the line better but after that there isn't much between them...as you'd expect considering the have the same power and both weigh more or less the same.
I would expect a mapped 335i to convincingly beat a standard RS. There was one at santa pod when i went, it was standard and it was pulling 102 mph in the very low 14's, it was only losing out to the 335i on the launch. check this out... |

Thats what im thinking. The thing is from a stand still things can be a liytle different as some pull aways are better than others etc. But if you were already rolling and you kicked down or down shifted correctly you shoild have oulled a 3 car length gap before the rs could even hit boost.
My car is somewhat tuned and my mate paul with his tuned e92 M3 cant touch me. Nor can my other mate james in his Supercharged e46 M3. Theoretically what you saying is a tuned st focus is sitting on you 335? I cant see it. If map 5 causes this issue I certainly wont be using it. |

Sorry guys. totally forgot to add tht he'd had a mountune 350.
I hadn't checked out exactly what mods the mountune comes with but there are quite a few (FMIC cat delete etc). Thinking about it maybe he should have outright beat me. I was out yesterday and chanced a map 2 for a couple of spurts and can outright say that I would have WASTED him. Wished i'd thought to have used it at the time Doh! |

A stage 1 remapped 335i should easily smoke a standard RS.
A guy in his new Boxster S couldn't shake me off...and in the words of Ian, "I wasn't even trying.." |
