Meet the noPhoto: The Only Countermeasure for Red Light and Speed Cameras

Hi everyone,

As a relatively new company, I wanted to introduce us here. Here at noLimits Enterprises, we have been working on a patent-pending, microprocessor controlled license plate frame called the noPhoto for about three years now. Back in October, we launched an Indiegogo campaign that raised about $28,000 to help us cross the finish line and got us worldwide press. Our website, which contains a lot of educational material about the functioning of the noPhoto, is:

You can read a couple of articles about us here:

http://www.wired.com/rawfile/2012/10...light-cameras/

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/1...n_1989352.html

It's been a long (and stressful) wait, but we are now in full swing - Indiegogo orders are being fulfilled this week and we just started retail sales. Our inventory sold out faster than we expected (3 hours flat for the Pro model), but we have increased our 2nd month orders from our supplier. In the meantime, I wanted to begin sponsorship and start a dialogue about the noPhoto with the e90post community.

Here is a rundown of the noPhoto and it's features:
  • HxWxD 7.16" x 13.0" x 1.62"
  • Invented, Designed, Engineered, and Manufactured in the United States of America
  • Works in all lighting and weather conditions
  • Intelligent False Activation Prevention Circuitry (reduces false alerts)
  • Update-able Firmware - your noPhoto will never get outdated. If camera manufacturers change their hardware to defeat the noPhoto, the firmware can be updated to counter their changes. You'll always be one step ahead. (May require unit to be sent in)
  • Some Installation Required - the noPhoto can be installed the same way as a hardwired radar detector, LED license plate frame, backup camera, or any other common powered automotive accessory. Requires +12v power source and ground.
  • Weatherproof – the noPhoto is sealed against water, snow, and other environmental hazards.
  • U.S. Patent Pending

We also have a noPhoto Pro model, which offers some compelling upgrades.
  • The noPhoto Pro features a wireless keyfob control that has a "kill switch," bulb test feature, and a firing mode select feature (you can fire both flashes simultaneously for double power output, or one at a time to handle multiple camera or pre-flash systems)
  • The noPhoto Pro includes security screws at no extra charge.

You can check out some videos of the noPhoto in action (as well as our early Indiegogo marketing videos) on our Youtube channel.

Our original concept video:

A noPhoto prototype in action against a real, live speed camera in Maryland back in February:

Which brings us to sponsorship! I've been a long-time BMW fan (that's me and my BMW in the image below!) and readers of this site - the users here have helped me many times and in many ways. So we are pleased to announce that we have become a Silver level sponsor of e90post - our first sponsorship ever.

As a way to say thank you, we're offering a discount code for free security screws to go along with your noPhoto. Enter "thxe90post" at checkout. Please add the screws to your cart along with your noPhoto to avoid separate shipping charges.

I'll leave you with this image - to the best of our knowledge, this is the first time in history that a red light or speed camera has been actively defeated. To get this image, we used the keyfob to set the noPhoto Pro to only react to ONE flash even though we knew these particular cameras used TWO photographs. The idea was to intentionally receive a ticket with two images on it - one of the noPhoto off (which is how they could send us the ticket) and one with the noPhoto in action obscuring the license plate. That's exactly what happened - and this intentionally-received ticket is still the only ticket that we have ever received in testing. Also, the retail unit we are shipping is approximately 4x brighter than that early prototype used in the image.

We realize there will be likely many questions - feel free to post here in this thread, email, or PM us.

All the best and drive free,

Jon and the noLimits Team

Yes, unfortunately that's one of the byproducts of having it assembled in the USA. Our costs would drop tremendously if we assembled in China.

On the flip side of things though, it's cheaper than a single camera ticket in some locales (like California), prevents points from being reported to your insurance, and is less than a top of the line radar detector.

This is pretty amazing! Is there any legal issues with owning this?

The last red light ticket I got was in Oakland and it was $500. After paying for traffic school and wasting 3 hours of my time it cost me almost $600. Would pay for itself with the first save!!

The beauty of the noPhoto is that there is nothing physical covering the license plate, and it does not cover any state names or mottos. There are tons of laws in existence prohibiting plate frames that cover parts of the plate and outlawing plate covers, but the noPhoto is none of those things. It's just a non-obscuring frame.

90% of our customers only need one. The vast majority of cameras only take pictures of EITHER the rear or front plate. There are a couple of systems out there (Colorado is one, I believe) that use multiple cameras, but these are in the minority.

We are working on putting together an "enforcement" map on our website, but this will take some time as nobody has really done this kind of thing before. You can help us if you want by emailing us at support@nolimitsenterprises.com and letting us know where you live and what kind of system is in place.

Thumbs up

Any fitment pictures with a pre-LCI E92 m-sport? Interested in front and rear. An e9x DIY install guide would be handy as well.

Sorry for the slow response, I've been in Colorado visiting our manufacturer and have been a bit behind on emails/forum posts.

I'm 95% sure it will fit on the pre-LCI e92 M sport - the exact dimensions are available here: http://www.nophoto.com/collections/p...atch-pre-order

We are working on install guides for various platforms, but with my X1 I wired it into the rear running lights. That way, I could even use the headlight controls as sort of a "manual" switch and even have the functionality to have the unit on when the car was off by turning on the lights.
