Car Shipped Cross Country -> Chip in clear coat :/
Hey guys, so my car was recently shipped cross country. It was covered in bugs when I got it, after a hand wash at a local detailer I noticed a large chip in the clear coat. I am in the process of seeing if the damage is covered by the shipping insurance, however I would just like some input as how this would be fixed. Full respray of bumper clear coat or would a body shop be able to repair this?
First photo is the damage. Second is what it looked like before it was shipped :/ |

sorry to hear. but when i shipped my car, i took no chances and ordered a enclosed trailer. though it cost a more, its definitely worth the extra money.

You take your chances with an enclosed trailer too. I had my truck shipped across the country and when it got here it had big scratches down the entire passenger side and some on the hood.

Transportation was provided by work, didn't have the option for an enclosed trailer. The small chips I can deal with. I am more wondering how the larger section can be repaired? Anyone experience something like this with factory paint? I will probably order new grills due to chips as well.

yeah you would need it repainted. You can do a touch up but it wont be perfect (here's one of the better touch up jobs ive seen http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=617142 )
it's a good opportunity to swap bumpers (m3 bumper for example). |
