Saw this under the hood..

It appears it's a little bit of oil. You can see on the plastic where it's darker. I had this before, wiped it away to see if it was just a little bit of oil that spilled, but now it's back. Is this normal? What could it be?

I'd guess a leaking oil filter housing gasket is the source of the oil. When you are driving there is a lot of air turbulence under the hood. The OFH gasket has a small leak, the turbulent air picks up the oil vapor and deposits it on the air filter housing.

Wow thanks for the reply. I also had it in the back part of the engine cover as well, so your guess sounds spot on. What do I have to do to fix it? Thanks again!

Does anyone else have any feedback on this? I would like to know for sure what is it before I go changing something. Thanks.

I’ve never seen oil there, that’s an odd spot…There’s no oil flowing near the air box, so the only thing I can think of is oil depositing there somehow…But even then, it’s pretty centralized, looks like a classic “leak”. I’d take the box off and give the engine bay a good look over, see if you can find oil elsewhere.

The DIY section has full instructions on how to repair it.

Yeah I don't think it's the gasket leak some are mentioning. I guess I will take the cover off and see if I notice anything...

I mean it appears to be located the same spot all around. That cover just removes off right, I just lift up the metal tabs and thats it?

I meant more along the lines of take the airbox off of the car and see if anything underneath or around has oil on it. If it's just isolated to the airbox, i'm baffled.

Do you see your oil level decrease ? Could be a turbo leak getting oil inside the airbox. Best action there is to open the airbox and see what's in there. Should be dry.
