So I ended up replacing my tension struts...

...with the help of CalWaterBoy and left123's nice write-ups. However, I had a huge headache trying to remove the nut on the steering knuckle! I ended up shattering not 1, but 2 T-40's while trying to get the bolt not to rotate while removing the nut. I took a brief look and didn't see anyone else complain about PITA issues like this. Was my situation one of those abnomalities? I was fortunate to have remove it far enough to be able to use a grind wheel to cut the bolt (not a whole lot of options to buy a new T-40 at midnight!) and to have it only be the passenger side that was the pain - the driver side came off and went on without a hitch.
