Hi all.

So had the infamous and extremely satisfying CIC retrofit complete a couple of weeks ago. I opted for more than most and figured if going to do it, going to go all the way, so went with combox/6NR/6FL/6NF as well as the CIC. Shout out to Sam/Makkan00 for the faultless install, and for being so helpful in every way possible, a genuinely nice guy. Any one looking to get this installed and coded in the UK, he's your man, worth the drive even from way up north. And yes, that includes if you need your dash changed to a double scoop/you don't have CCC already like me.

After playing around a little I realised that to get an app with video out working, all you need to do is -

Once have a video playing full screen from your videos folder (for those of you who do have 6nr option, the only way the CIC officially supports video playback is if you navigate from the CIC menu to the videos folder and start a video from your videos folder directly through the CIC)

If like most people you don't have any videos in your videos folder, which you have to to initiate the video out feature on the iphone, then I just search TV trailer on itunes (which are free and small so quick to DL) and DL'd the Luther trailer.

Then on iphone open any app with video out support (the video you started playing from the videos folder via the CIC will freeze at this point, this is fine)

That's it, its as simple as that. The video out from the app you are conrolling overtakes the video from video folder on the cic screen, and overtakes the sound too! You have to keep the app open though (even if normally supports video out playback function whilst running in the back ground) if press home button will go back to freeze frame of the video from videos folder. Here is south playing through the AV Player HD app (sorry for blurry pic, ironically playing a cartoon in its native mkv form on AV Player is the BEST quality achievable on the CIC through the limited OEM analogue in, the only OEM way in)

So, 6nr video out supported apps;

Apps Have tried mysef and can confirm work

• The video app itself
• StreamToMe
• AVPlayer HD (great app for playing any file type in its original format straight from the iPhone)
• Waze (Social media based FREE GPS APP)

Apps have read work, and to be honest ANY APP which supports video out will work, so know these will.

• NetFlix
• SlingPlayer (which means sky in the car if willing to but sling box!!)
• Any app with video out

Apps have tried that unfortunately do not have video out feature

• Youtube
• TvCatchUp
• Sky Go

Now, that is as far as capabilities go for non jailbroken iphone users. Still pretty good in my opinion considering how many apps support video out. No use if want to get tomtom on screen, not to mention the apps listed above that unfortunately do not have video out feature, apps which all UK users will want to get on their CIC screen, and to be fair apps that any user from all over the world could get working if they can use a VPN or other method to fool their device into thinking it is in the UK. Please DO NOT PM REGARDING GETTING UK IP, THIS IS STUFF YOU CAN RESEARCH ON A NON BMW FORUM. Thanks

But, if you are a techy and have a jailbroken device, the possibilities become way, way more plentiful.

Display out (from cydia) on a jailbroken iphone works a treat, projecting full mirroring to CIC screen. Had a couple probs where if try to use tv catch up through safari display out prompts a message saying "tv out function is already built in to safari, you may want to disable display out" and then force quits safari. The same was happening with the tvacatchup app. Really annoyed me as thought display out would be good for getting tvcatch up, youtube and more video playback apps working without the video out function enabled by the developers, most of the time as they are not allowed to due to licensing laws.

SO, display out is only good for full mirroring, which is great for things like tomtom But very annoying as the main purpose of the project to start with was to get tv catch up on the screen.

Also, if you so wish, the mirroring DISPLAY OUT feature also works in PLUGIN mode on the CIC, but when on wide screen gets cut off, so up to you. You don't need BMW Connect app installed on the phone to do anything in this tutorial, only BMW apps such as web radio. Lastly, when you install display out from Cydia, don't be alarmed you cant see the icon as an app, you find it in settings. Please make sure you set the settings exactly as I have pictured or you'll find the taps showing permanently on the external display which is obviously annoying as you can see them over everything else behind them.

AGAIN PLEASE DONT PM ME ABOUT JAILBREAKING PHONE, INSTALLING DISPLAY OUT, GETTING A UK IP ETC, THIS IS FOR A DIFFERENT FORUMS, I WILL NOT RESPOND TO QUESTIONS RELATING TO THESE ISSUES. ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE DIRECT CONTENT OF THE TUTORIAL ONLY PLEASE.

Now, lastly, I managed to get iplayer and tv catch up to work, woooo hooo! Youtube works through safari, and would work on the iphone app if it doesn't have the latest youtube updated app released this week (iOS 7 layout) like mine does.

The way to 'force' the video out feature, from any video playback app which has it disabled by default, is to install another app available cydia called RESUPPORTED 4+.

RESUPPORTED 4+ enables the tvcatchup app and iplayer app to show video out on the CIC display REMEMBER to turn off display out in settings when using resupported 4+. You never need to turn off Resupported 4+, nor can you turn it off. Between these two cydia apps you will be able to get mirroring for non video apps and video out enabled when not by default on video playback apps.

I have not tried any games yet, please feel free to add comments to the thread if anyone does

The pic showing the odometer on the CIC screen is me watching a video from youtube (via safari) on how to access secret menu/check battery voltage....

Which brings me to my last signing off point, LEAVE YOUR ENGINE RUNNING WHEN PLAYING AROUND WITH YOUR CAR OR YOULL GET A FLAT! If like me, you keep car garaged, you can't keep the engine running or will fumigate yourself, get yourself down halfords and get battery maintenance charger (normally called a trickle charger), its only £25 and does up to 70ah batteries.

web radio/bmw apps next best thing all dab stations, plus a load more from all around the world.....

Very comprehensive thread about what you have done and its defo a step ahead.
To my knowledge people spent countless money on additional hardware to get iphone mirroring on CIC, so hats off to you doing that by software tweaking.

I'm on iphone application so do not know how to put the cross reference to that thread.
