I've googled and read about pros and cons with wrapping you downpipe(s) but I'm looking for 335i specific. I posted a thread a while back about booming resonance after adding a bms downpipe in this section for anyone that remembers. Has anyone tried to wrap their downpipe for insulation to reduce downpipe noise? I know you can have headers/pipes ceramic or jet but I'm am curious about layers of material to take away the downpipe 1/4 throttle sound coming from the engine.

Please if you have experience or have heard share comments or thoughts. I haven't seen much info around here about it.

I even added corsa mufflers to help drown out the noise but it is still there!

I did 2 coats of ceramic heat shielding (just buy the spray cans from an auto shop like Kragen/O'Reilly) and thermal wrapped it as well. You should definitely do this, it'll direct heat away from the turbo/engine bay and out the exhaust where it belongs. I don't think it has any effect on noise, my car has no drone

DEI has a titanium wrap that reduces resonance from the pipe and even drone. It can be used from up pipes to further down near the mufflers. Besides directing heat down the exhaust more efficiently,I primarily want to get rid of the downpipe/engine resonance so the only exhaust noise I hear are from the mufflers.

DEI was the brand I used, so maybe it helped with resonance either way you should definitely coat+wrap your downpipe, it'll extend the life of your turbo

Any possibility at all to have it wrapped while on a lift or does it need to be removed and wrapped. Would just be a waste of time and money to try uninstall it,wrap it, install it and hope for the best!

You'd have to pull it off to coat and wrap it. You may not think it's worth it, but ceramic coating+wrapping it will help performance and the longevity of your turbo, as well as reduce overall engine bay heat

Weird, I have the same down pipe but have no issues with sound. The smell however drives me crazy.

When I saw this thread it prompted me to start looking into either wrapping or ceramic coating the catted dp that I'm going to switch to. I have read mixed reviews on the ceramic coating. Some say that it is only effective if both the inside and outside are ceramic coated which would be pretty difficult.

Wrapping seems to be a popular option but I have no experience so it looks like it might require reading up on some DIY threads.

From what I have read it appears that both wrapping and ceramic coating together is not recommended.

Hopefully someone with experience will chime in.

The point behind coating and wrapping is that it prevents the heat from escaping the pipe and radiating into the engine bay right next to your turbo. Coating the inside would prevent the pipe itself from getting as hot, but the goal is to prevent radiative heat, not stop the downpipe from heating up. There is no reason I can see that both wrapping and coating should cause problems.

I used to do this to one of my previous cars when I had downpipes. I'd say the benefits really outweigh the negatives because of the heat reduction.

The only negative I can think of is the wrap causes condensation to sit and eventually rust starts to form. You can [help] prevent this by getting them coated before wrapping.

If the pipe is made of non quality steel I could see it going through eventually but would take years

It's also an extremely easy DIY, just plug the bung holes and use masking tape for the ends.
