Insane battery drain? or alternator problem?
2009 e92.
When I first purchased the car second hand, I noticed that I couldn't listen to music when the car is off for longer than 10 minutes before the "Increased Battery Discharge" warning comes on. Then the car would turn itself off, but I can start it to accessories again to listen to music for another 10mins before it happens again. I could do this multiple times and the battery would always be able to start the car. Then about a month later, I did the "Battery Recall", nothing improved or got worse. 5 months later, I got tired of not being able to listen to music while I wait for passengers so I replaced the battery with my friend's 2011 E92 battery. He swapped it out at 5k miles for a low weight battery... because race car. At first, everything was running perfectly fine. But then a few days later when I began to code my car, the battery would completely die before I could even code the car. ie, I would "read data" and while I'm changing and searching for values, the car would shut off and I won't be able to turn it on anymore until I jump the car from the engine bay. **I no longer see the "increased battery discharge" warning, instead, the car would just completely die without warning.** I followed the steps here in post 2 to register my battery: "http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=532315" Is something wrong with the IBS? something wrong with the battery cable recall? Did I miss a step? (Besides replacing the battery and registering the battery according to the 2nd post in the above link, is there anything else I have to do?) Now it is winter and the problem is becoming even worse. I would leave the car in my garage for 2 days without touching it, and when I decide to drive it again, the battery is once again completely dead. Last night, 2 hours after a ~15miles drive, I turned on my headlights for about 5 minutes to test my low beams and turned the car back off. 4 hours later, I started the car and all dash error lights were blinking and the interior lights, including the speedometer, turned off while the car was still running. While I was freaking out and taking out my phone to google, the engine dies and the car is off again and I can no longer start the car... So I started(engine running) the car and less than 2 minutes later, the car turned itself off. |
