Higher boost and oil leak
Hey Guys,
Tried to search the forum but couldn't find much about this. Recently I have installed Cobb AP Stage 1 Sport map and after driving the car for two days I have noticed burning oil smell in the cabin and smoke from under the hood. Today I came back from work and noticed oil paddle on the garage floor after car being parked overnight. I did check it underneath and engine tray is oily so it means that oil is dripping on the tray and then on the floor. Just to clarify there were no leaks before installing the tune and I just drove the car with the tune for two days only and wasn't pushing it hard at all. Is the increase in boost (stock boost on our cars is ~8 psi and Stage 1 Sport is ~11 psi per Cobb) is pushing oil out through one or more of the seals and if so which one. I am replacing valve cover this weekend so I will check things out but it is strange that no one else has experienced this issue when on performance tune. ![]() Update: After replacing VC oil leak is complitly gone. Now I am working on small coolant leak on the drv side. Last edited by Monster900; 12-05-2013 at 11:42 AM.. |

I'd honestly say it's probably a coincidence. Have you maybe been driving the car a little harder since installing the tune? I can't think of much else tune-related that would cause an oil leak. Now you just need to figure out where it's coming from.

Not really and the leak is significant. This would be too much coincident I think.

I've seen quite a few N54 valve covers crack lately. Every one I've seen has been in the area of the PCV system, kind of behind the oil cap. You'd need to remove the engine cover to see it, though.

I hope that this is the case as it would be an easy fix as replacing vc which I was planning to do anyways due to the crack in the front. We will see tomorrow. I will keep you guys posted on my findings.
