HELP please - DIY problem w/HPS pads
Replacing my brake pads for the first time, about to fit the new pads, HPS p/n HB551 F.748. Outboard pads pictured have those clips riveted to the back plate, my OEM pads *do not have* these clips and the pads won't fit properly with them. However they are otherwise the same exact shape and size as OEM.
2009 E90 328i, non-sport, built June 2009. Pretty sure I ordered the right p/n. Any input appreciated.

I don't know what a 328i caliper looks like, but I swapped 335i calipers to my car and my pads had the clips as well. It took a bit of effort to get the clips to go in, but it wasn't too bad. Is there nothing for the clips to go in to at all or does it just seem that the clips are too wide? Last edited by Casca; 11-30-2013 at 01:35 PM.. |

Nothing for them to go into at all. Calipers are def. not made for outboard pads with those clips. Might have to dremel them off, not thrilled about it.
Thanks.

Ity seems to be a re-occurring theme with vendors specing 'correct' pads with clips on outboard pads where they don't belong...
When I bought my Akebono pads - all vendors spec'd out part number of pads for my 09' 328iX E92 that had the clips on the pads - my pads do NOT have the clips. I ended up getting email confirmation from Akebono as to the correct pad part number without clips, showed it to the vendor, and bought the pads without clips - they were the correct pads. Yes, you could dremel them off as some others have done, but I would just return them & get the pads without the clips...

Thanks to user jakuum for the PM, ultimately I just removed the clip by twisting and prying it away from the rivet. I don't expect any issues as the rivet is not a contact point for the pads. Just felt strange muscling a Chanelock pliers on a brake pad for a highly engineered German automobile.
Still waiting for a reply from Hawk on this question, as I know I ordered the right p/n. Thanks for the replies.
