Must say that its too much for its price.
Reliability is the only issue with these units. Give it a go at that sort of price.

They don't fit properly. The base of them sticks out far.

Looks the nuts for that price. Even if it sticks out a bit. Mod it so it doesnt.

I have been looking at these and other similar ones.
They do look like they are worth a punt at the price.
The only thing stopping me atm is i have a button for the front pdc and cant see how this fit in with this unit.

I've been looking at these for quite a while now as well...but it looks like I'd rather go for an Alpine or Pioneer double din option instead...
Most people have said that it looks very cheap(which it is!) and lots of design flaws :/

You also need to splice into the OEM electrics so that it remembers all the settings.

Heated seats uses canbus system which it will be taking from HU connector.
It will only give you door open prompt when you drive the car and door being open, you get the bong.

I have read stories about people fitting these to Audi A3's and the feedback about them says avoid!! They are crap according some of the owners.

End of the day you get what you pay for - personally I wouldn't buy a BMW which is a premium car to fit cheap crap parts to it.

Hi, everyone, thanks for discussing Eonon unit here. I just passed by and found this thread.
Everyone has different demand. If you are about to purchase the unit, as the Eonon salesman here, i not promote every one to buy the unit here, but I would like to offer you some more comprehensive review about the unit.
1) Does Eonon unit look cheap? These are some pictures shared by our customers. It looks great and sit there flush.

2) Does it plug and play? Yes, it is plug & play with most of the BMW E90 models. Some customers reflected they need cut the plastic frame and tabs (there is no need to cut wires) for installation.
Actually, only some specific models need to do a slight modification in plastic frame, since we haven’t got the issue when we install it in Hong Kong.

As shaushshaush said “ It is really not the radio that’s complicated, its the E90 itself. I have installed radios in dozens of cars and the e90 is by far the most complicated radio to work on. Most locations once knowing you have a e90 wont even touch the car for installation without spending $1000's to make sure everything is working in the car” http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=271
(Note:it work with Logic 7 but it is not plug and play. It requires some modification in wirings)

4) The radar sensor door image would not work with some of BMW models and Orange LED button color does not match the dash very well. Now we are working on it, and will improve and perfect it in the future.

In a word, all of the main and basic functions of the unit work great. So if you don’t mind the radar door sensor function, Orange LED button color or do some slight modification in plastic frame, Eonon D5165 is a good choice for you definitely.

From the following video posted by Nico Darrow, you will get more details about the unit. The review is very objective.

Most of the guys who buy Eonon unit is not for the brand, but for Eonon unit is great value for money and our customer service is very friendly. Will you spend 3- 4 times money to buy another big brand? Maybe yes, but pay what worth for the money is surely a smart choice.

If you guys still have any question about the unit, welcome to PM me and I am glad to assist you.

Whilst I agree with the statement "Most of the guys who buy Eonon unit is not for the brand, but the Eonon unit is great value for money and our customer service is very friendly."....

This doesn't escape the fact that the unit doesn't fit properly. For me that is the main problem why I won't buy it! You wouldn't buy shoes that don't fit, same way you wouldn't buy a door that didn't fit. I believe if you focused all of your attention to this simple issue you would get a LOT more sales.

Im going to have to agree with adam here. I thoufh maybe modding it would be fine. But cutting wires and clios and not being able to go back to stock seems allot to save a few quid.

Shame as it really looked the part.

When I was thinking of getting an E46 I was looking at these sort of units, the Dynavin model seemed the best, especially if it was the Android model.

A lot of money though.

Yes, you are right and I can understand it.
But as I mentioned, it plug and play for most of the BMW models, and only for some of the models, you have to trim the AC climate control panel a little bit.
It is easy and you can take the following pictures for reference.

Maybe some of you guys misunderstood that you have to modify the cables. Actually, as far as we know, you don’t need do wiring modification except you have the Logic7, Bose system, JBL or other audio system.

Just like we buy trousers and sometimes we need to cut the trouser cuffs.
The main functions of the unit work great. If you choose Eonon unit, and you can save more than hundred by only do a slight modification on climate control panel, then Eonon is a good choice for you. Moreover, DIY is a kind of pleasure for some experienced and professional guys also!

I'm sure 'professional guys' would stay out of a job where the bottom end of the unit is sticking out like a sore thumb...

I think the main reason Alpine, Pioneer etc..do so well is that their units fit perfectly without having to CUT their existing car to pieces and in doing this they can afford to sell at a higher price.

You mention buying jeans and cutting them off..I, personally wouldn't CUT a pair of Levi's whereas if I bought some jeans from Matalan then maybe I would. Essentially what I'm saying is, I'd rather have Levis.

There is no reason not to go with an Alpine or Pioneer. It can be done without cutting any wires on any of the 3 systems, and the Janus dash kit will fit flush. If done right assist, pdc, and chimes will all still work.

What else would you need with these to fit an Alpine double din, harness, heated seat buttons etc?

It depends on what system and what options you have.

To do this properly you'll need to relocate the head unit, but if you don't have anything on the most bus it's not necessary to do this, and wont give you any errors. It is a good idea to save the headunit though if you aren't going to relocate it. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=319976

If you have logic 7 you'll also need an aftermarket amp and Technic's logic 7 harness. The stock amp works off the most bus and there is no way to use it.

For hifi you need RCA to speaker wire adapters if you are still using the stock amp. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=809490

You'll need the connects2 harness. There are a few different ones depending on whether or not you have pdc, and if you want the phone button to work. The connects2 harness also has the adapter for the steering wheel controls. You do have to run a constant 12 volt to the battery, but other than that it has all the connections.

Chimes are no problem on the base or hifi system using the pdc version of the connects2 harness. On logic 7 it is more work to keep the chimes, since you have to use RCA's to connect to the new amp. It can be done using a separate speaker if its that important, but my opinion is to just not worry about the chimes if you have logic 7. Earlier models already have a separate speaker for chimes so you dont have to worry about this.

As far as the heated seat buttons you could get the newer climate control with the heated seat buttons built in. You could also move them to the ashtray. The Janus kit includes the parts to do this. The new climate control is the cleaner/easier way of doing it.

I'd also reccomend a brake bypass from http://www.microbypass.com The connects2 harness has the handbrake wire, but most Alpine's need to be connected to the foot brake as well. Its just more convenient to use the bypass.

Antenna adapter Metra 40-EU10
