Winter project E93 BMW 335is

Good morning everyone.

For those who are not familiar with my past modifications, see below thread

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=606526

Further to that, this summer we did the Quaiffe limited diff, Clutch, lockdown kit and 3 inch downpipes. The diff with the lockdown kit were one of the best mods I have ever done...

We decided to finally finish the project by upgrading to RB turbos, custom tuning (the ECU has already been sent to VISHNU for the Fuel Map) and to change the intercooler to a larger one.

All work is done by a good friend of mine at a very prestigious shop in Montreal, Canada, Motorsportsinaction

I will keep you updated with the project. Below are some pics so far!

Clutch

Turbos Removed

Diff and lockdown kit

and a teaser!

I have a few hyme joints like those. I wonder if I could just design some aluminum mounts like those and make my own lockdown. Anyone have pictures of each aluminum bracket needed for this mod and maybe some dimensions? Would this be a good mod without having a limited slip diff?

You could... AFAIK they're priced cheaper than you can make them yourself. (Unless you have free access to a machine shop and stock)

I'm not sure its worth it to make yourself. it's probably best you already buy the kits available. I believe this would still be a good mod without having a limited slip.

Do you guys think the stock dual mass flywheel with Spec Stage 2+ clutch will be ok with this setup or I will have the misfire/vibration issue along with other flywheel related issues? from what I've read so far, it seems to be at the limit. some say it's ok with RB turbo's and others say the flywheel should be changed. anyone with experience can chime in?

Hey Everyone

some updates.

Turbo's are done.

Intercooler was finished today

The red line is where the bumber needed to get cut

and the finished product

She should be going on the dyno first week of January. The tuner is out of town until then... either way, couldn't drive her, lots of snow here!

If it's a new dual mass flywheel and if you want to push those turbos to the limit, then it may cause mild issues at high rpm. The dual mass flywheel loosens up and gets worse as it gets old so I wouldn't re-use it.

Yes it's a new dmwf. We don't plan on boosting more than 20 psi peak and tapering down towards redline.

We decided to put her on the dyno with the stock flywheel and make a decision then.

hey guys...

she finally went on the dyno.

spent around 7 hours today and they basically finished the non meth map with the RB turbos.

dyno is mustang dyno
94 octane
max 15 psi of boost
FBO

445 WHP and 465 lbs of torque.

pretty much the max with no meth.

tomorrow we will work on the meth maps.

will keep you posted.

Didn't get a chance to dyno her today. Will do it next week. Without meth, these results are pretty much the max we can get out of the car. Fuelling being the issue.

Would an inline fuel upgrade help in any way or it's not worth it?

we haven't driven her on the street yet. streets are full of snow here.

I don't however expect any issues with suspension and tranny since they have been upgraded already. Clutch should be good for this kind of power.

we are just debating now if we should do something with fueling (add an inline fuel pump) because without meth, fueling was pretty much maxed out at those power levels.

it's been a while...

she did a couple of dyno runs last week...

we got with 50/50 meth, 485 WHP and 500 lbs of Torque at 19 psi of boost.

We plan on doing a couple of more tweaks and should have everything done this week.

as soon as I get the car back, I can post the dyno sheets.

to recap, without meth 445 whp and with meth 485 whp....

I'm very happy with the results.

Did some more runs. we have been having trouble getting a consistent flow from the methanol system even though the results were pretty good. (I have the windshield washer kit and there seems to always have air in the system). We decided to remove the meth and plan on doing a proper trunk meth kit with proper pump placement (under the tank) etc... For now, we are extremely pleased with the non meth results that we decided to leave everything as is.

We pulled off 490 whp and 460 lbs of torque @ 15 psi of boost. There was 0 iginition correction. We got much better results by dialing back the boost and properly playing with the timing as opposed to going for large boost numbers. We believe that with Meth we will not get a tremendous increase in peak horsepower but expect torque to be somewhere in between 540 and 550 lbs as opposed to 460.

below is a video of the dyno run... not the best quality.
