Bluetooth OBD2

What bluetooth obd2 do you guys use?
Looking at this one http://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-CAN-...tooth+obd2+bmw

My buddy has one (not this one) using torque app on his galaxy tab and it works pretty well.

That's the one I ordered and it works great. I also like the slim design as it doesn't protrude at all.

Streams some engine parameters to a bluetooth device, like a phone or tablet.

You really want OBDLink LX/MX as it uses a better chip set and is 200/400x faster than ELM.

I just ordered the MX with ScanXL Professional.

Supported Protocols

Legislated OBD protocols:
ISO15765-4 (CAN)
ISO14230-4 (Keyword Protocol 2000)
ISO9141-2 (Asian, European, Chrysler vehicles)
J1850 VPW (GM vehicles)
J1850 PWM (Ford vehicles)
Single Wire CAN (GM)
Medium Speed CAN (Ford)

Exclusive OBDLink Features

Extended command set - Enables OBDLink MX to perform enhanced diagnostics not possible with ELM327-based scan tools. 100% compatible with legacy ELM327 command set.
Upgradeable firmware - Free updates that unlock new features and keep your adapter up to date.
BatterySaver™ - Allows MX to automatically enter Sleep mode when not in use.
Advanced multi-protocol auto-detect algorithm - OBDLink MX connects to more OBDII vehicles than any adapter on the market.
Smart keep-alive algorithm - Ensures a stable connection on ISO and KWP vehicles
Large CAN memory buffer - STN1110's architecture allows OBDLink MX to manage larger amounts of data without error compared to older ELM327-based scan tools.

What all does the MX do that the $12 amazon one won't? I know it's much fast, likely more stable too. Just curious if it will read more codes or what?

Does it show anymore engine parameters than elm 327; i.e. boost set points, WGDC?

All of that information is there and can be added as custom PIDs also. I have the extract output from the MSD80.PRG, but I think there is more there than what is available through the standard files published by BMW. There are some auto scan options that can pick up on PIDs and I'll be working with Palmer to get the BMW stuff updated.

daily drive I use Torque PRO on my phone and or my Nexus 7... Then for data logging I use ScanXL Professional with my laptop. I recommend the OBDLink LX or MX. Much faster than ELM and has more channels of support.

Were you able to get Torque Pro to show boost? The only units it is logging well for me is RPM and Engine Load

I was just wondering today how my Nexus would work out, bigger screen and all. I had scantool's BT adapter ,but returned it because the novelty of playing with Torque wore off. Might be time to give it another go. Thanks

This is everything from the MSD80.PRG file used by EDIBAS. You'll see the HEX value for the PID's in the ID column that start with 0x. Leave the 0x off and just use the HEX value. You'll have to do the calculations to get the readings you're looking for, but you can find the hpa to psi conversions online.

You are the man! Now if only there was a way to prevent the JB4 from blocking most PID's.

is the LX/MX faster when just using the torque app? I have a ELM now and just figured it was the app sample rate that was slow. I really don't use it for much but it would be nice if the sample rate increased.

This table has some of the calculations needed. You can also look at the XDF and see that a lot of the values in the tables we look at are \ by X.

Can you please provide the formula you use?

mine is defined as A*0.014503773773022
Boost is a combination of things and normally scripted into a function.

function GetRequiredPids()
{
Obdii.AddRequiredPid("SAE.MAP");
Obdii.AddRequiredPid("SAE.BARO");
}

variable ManifoldRelativePressurePSI = Obdii.GetPidValueEnglish("SAE.MAP") /2.04;

variable BarometricPressurePSI = Obdii.GetPidValueEnglish("SAE.BARO") /2.04;

variable BoostPSI = ManifoldRelativePressurePSI - BarometricPressurePSI

// This leaves us with two options, English or Metric.

Obdii.PidValue.English = BoostPSI;

Obdii.PidValue.Metric = BoostPSI / 14.50; // PSI to Bar

So to put PSI in simple terms. BoostPSI = (MAP/2.04) - (BARO/2.04)

Hello, I now use a Bluetooth adapter http://www.afterpartz.com/us/sainspe...o-scanner.html and use it with the torque app. The adapter is relatively long, has the advantage that it, for example, at 250 easily gets out of the socket again. Nevertheless, the cover can remain closed.
