Alpina B7 hits my 335D at the carwash

I'm still fuming- no one got hurt- but the car was in pristine condition!

Anyway, with no rain in the forecast for the foreseeable future, I thought I'd treat my black 335D to a nice hand wash like I always do.

Well, clearly, I wasn't the only one with that idea. The car wash was packed! Traffic was backing up from the entry driveway into oncoming traffic, so I decided to bail. I back up and get my car parallel with the main roadway. As I wait for traffic to clear, I get hit by a 2008 Alpina B7 who had the same idea.

Unfortuately he thought I had already left, but I had not and basically his left bumper corner hit my rear quarter panel and wheel.

Here is the damage:

The scene:

The rear brake is dragging now and the tire hits the fender when I make a left turn.

I'm leaving the car at the office and will have the D towed to the body shop tomorrow.

I guess this will teach me not to wash my car in a timely fashion.

That blows. My car has been hit 4 times already. I'm unlucky. 3 of them I wasn't even in the vehicle lol.

I'd take a guess at around $2-3000 worth of damage.

That's rough, but could be worse. I was parked and unloading groceries with my door slightly open and someone drove by and completely bent it in half.. I feel your pain though

That sucks, next time try using a bucket, soap, sponge and hose -- would be hard to do that much damage to it.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. It is hard to keep a nice car in California!

Look in front of the rear wheel- there it is.

Black looks so good when it is clean... So I try to keep up the regimen.

That really sucks! Hope you can get it fixed quickly.

His car is not a B7. Looks like a 750 sport package car.

That bites...I got hit by a garbage truck two months after getting my CPO. Damage didn't look too bad but the body shop bill to the trash company was $15K

Thanks for all of the warm wishes. I know everyone on this forum knows the frustration I'm going through.

Got the loaner today, it was a choice of a Prius or Passat, guess which one I took.

Car is already at the body shop and I might not need a rear clip- that is good news. However, they are concerned about the suspension damage. Hopefully I'll have the car back in two weeks.

Well I found out it wasn't a B7 (as clongo pointed out). I guess he used to have one, but then bought this- he had it less than 30 days. I wonder what happened to the B7? Wrecked? :O

As for how fast he was backing up, I don't know as I was looking in my drivers side rear view mirror looking at traffic so I could pull back into lane.

Make sure the body shop knows how to fix these cars. Unibody design and seems are both welded and glued. This is one instance where taking it to the BMW dealer matters. One of the best thing about this cars is the structural integrity and stiffness of the chassis. Don't let the insurance company dictate where you take your car.

Completely unrelated to the accident, but 99% of those 'hand wash' places will absolutely destroy your paint.

How? I'd be interested in what you have to say on this. I pay $30 a wash because I don't want swirl marks in my paint. I just don't have the time to wash it myself as I'd really rather do.

Because the guy that washes and dries your car has no idea what he's doing. He's also not paid enough to care, so when he gets to a dirty spot while drying, he just hits it with his trusty drying towel and loads up the towel with dirt.

The towel he just dried your car with he used on 14 other cars that day, he also dropped it 6 times, but he's paid to get cars in and out, not do a proper job.

If you want something fast and easy, look into Optimum No rinse products.
I can wash and wax my car by hand in ~30 minutes. Probably less if I'm in a hurry.
You can use it in a garage. Hell I've done it during lunch at work.
It won't scratch your paint, it leaves the paint slick, it's cheap... I haven't used anything else in years now.

I'm not a professional, but I take a lot of pride in my cars. Tons of info about it online, I haven't been more satisfied with a product in a long time.
