Subwoofer In Ski Pass Pic Request

I'm thinking about adding a 10tw3 to the car in the ski pass. Right now their is a lot of plastic that i'd need to remove first, but i wanted to see if anyone out their has photos of their setup that their willing to share. I searched but couldn't find much. Ideally i'd like to find e93 ski pass setup's but e92 should technically be the same. I'd also guess that the e90 ski pass would be very similar in size correct?

I'm trying to find out if a 12TW3 will fit in the ski pass? I also thought about a 13TW5 but according to the JL audio dimensions it looks like its to big for the whole. If anyone fit a 13" in their I'd love to see how you did it. I was thinking of either building an enclosure in the ski pass or running a W6 in Infinite baffle though the Ski Pass.

Thanks in advance for the pics.

This sub only needs .5cf which seems like it would be a good fit for the ski hole. I wanted to do Infinite baffle, but then i'd need to buy an infinate baffle sub. Their arn't that many good ones, but i still havnt decided yet on anything for sure.

I'd love to see more setups if anyone has any. I searched google but only found about 3-4 cars. I would think that we should have at least 20+ users who have done this in the world with their e93/e92 or e90 cars in the ski pass.

Does anyone know if their are any sub boxes you can buy online that are made to fit the ski pass?

Mathematics is that a 12?

my partner in crime at the shop did that baffle. this is a 12". it's a Dynaudio Esotar 1200 in an M3 e93. 3/4" MDF made to pressure fit inside and then screwed all around from the outside of the plastic and then covered in sound deadening.

Thats one expensive sub! I also just looked it up and I'm confused. I measured the front of my ski pass from top to bottom and it measured at 11.5inches, which then just confused me more since you said that sub is a 12" sub, so i decided to do some digging.

I found the subs instruction manual and found its dimensions. That sub measures as 297mm (from edge to edge) which is 11.69 inches. A 12" would have a cone diameter of a minimum of 12inches. This sub has a cone diameter of 260mm which is 10.23 Inches. That is a 10" Sub.

This information came right from the Manual. Looks like a 10" is the sub is the only thing that will fit directly in the ski whole.

I welcome you to show me 12" subs that have 12" diameter of cone. Speaker diameters pretty much never mean cone diameter. It refers to overall diameter. You can do all the digging you like. Also, the brochure you linked says it's a 12" diameter driver. Did you read it??

This is true. I looked up quite a few subs. Most have an 11" cone and sum 10.5". I wonder what constitutes a sub to be called a 12 vs a 10 ect.. Is it just the outer diameter?

My car was barely able to fit a 12'' sub with the back panel removed.

Good luck, sounds awesome by the way.

Wow nice setup! I got my 10TW3 and almost bought a 12 but was worried it wouldn't fit. I didn't realize the plastic piece in the middle could actually come out till i saw your pics! Man i probably could have fit a 12 lol. Since you didn't have the ski pass your ski pass looks bigger than mine. I have a plastic piece in the middle that makes it more difficult to build a box. I wonder if their is a way to remove it.

Also I just learned about Kerfing and how to bend mdf wood and figured thats probably the best way to build the small enclosure. Is that what you did or did you cut just cut and create 45" cuts to make the wood match up?

Do you happen to still have the measurements of your box? I'm looking to create exactly what you did but scale it down to 0.5 cubic feet since thats the size i need I'm hoping that i won't need to extend it passed the exit for the .5 cubic feet but i'll need to calculate that out to find out. If anything it may extend passed the exit point by an inch or two.

I tried to measure it out but the inside plastic, but it has a lot of angles making me think about a fiberglass enclosure, but if i can remove that piece and duplicate what you did that would be even better.

I'd love to see pics of the build process of the sub if you happen to have them? I'm guessing that this is probably something you didnt so as most wouldn't unless they planned to share it online at some point.

Thanks for the picks and the links

Im pretty sure there is a way to remove that panel from the back.

I did not use that technic mentioned. I cutout the bottom part first, then cut and sanded each side piece as well as I could to make it fit. I did not glue or fully screw in all the pieces until the ski-pass and the speaker were in place. It was a very tedious process but well worth it.

No I dont, I tried to measure it but its got many angles and knew it will not be accurate to make public. Yes, looking at it now, I would love to redo this with fiberglass and make it fit snugg.

Thanks for the help. Trust me when i say i wouldnt expect this to be perfect. Making sub boxes it's self is a task at hand let alone making one with odd angles that we have.

So if im understanding you correctly, you when you created the odd shaped front piece you started with the bottom, sides, then 3 small pieces for the top? Did you cut the wood on the corners at an angle to get them to line up then sand it down? so to get the odd shape you used a total of 5 pieces correct? This count that im thinking of is excluding the rear and the front piece that the sub connects to.

Thanks again for the help and incite. I like the method of kerfing but thats only if you need a circle edge which by the look of your box its not needed and instead i can corner the wood if i can find a way to remove the plastic pieces in the middle.

The plastic seem fragile. has there been any issues with it cracking, or did you do anything to add strength to the plastic? I am planning to use both halves (cabin side/trunk) of the plastic ski pass assembly in mine and just Dremel off the rear flip up piece so the magnet can fit it looks like you did something different. Did you use any screw to attach this to the metal frame inside the ski pass opening.

also it appears that you have wood going into the opening where the booster seat belt buckle is. did you use a separate piece of wood just to fill that in, or is it part of the 3 layers of birch?
