All of a sudden whining (video link) Possible AT whine

My car began making a whining noise today. I heard it when I stepped on it. It happens constantly but not audible at low Rpms. I rev the engine in neutral and the whine is still present. I stepped on it again just now and the smell of atf caught my nose. Also noticed a delay from 2nd to 3rd. Could the transmission be low on atf? Turbos replaced about 500 miles ago. I have a mechatronic sleeve I never installed. Transmission fluid was changed about 10k ago along with pan/filter but mechatronic sleeve was not leaking. Anyone ever experience this?

I didn't hear it. Hopefully nothing serious. Check your differential?

Sounds almost supercharged from the note of the sound and how loud it is. I believe it's most audible at high Rpms in the video. It's not the differential, definitely coming from more towards the front

I definitely hear it, but no idea what it may be.. Any of your belts have issues? Maybe a whining water pump? Do you have a loose intake system maybe sucking air in from a pocket causing the noise?

My wife's 328i was making a similar noise and the dealer replaced her differential. That alone almost paid for her extended warranty.

My wife has a whining differential also, but I didn't get an extended warranty with my wife.

After my tech, along with both master techs, looked at it for about an hour they are leaning towards tensioner pulley. The whine is more than likely traveling through the parts and causing it to be audible on the interior. I'm gonna go ahead and change it. Won't know until I pull it out

I was told if you don't get it right the first time, try, and try again. Well I finally got this one right.

Auto trannys typically don't whine. Usually that is a bearing issue and most common is pulleys, wheels, and differentials.

I had a whining noise that rose with rpm, for years I dealt with it thinking turbos were bad, turned out to be a bad power steering pump...
