why does my tial end skip sideways when i hit a bump?

i have STOCK suspension because of car clearance issues where i live.
but i found the stock suspension very floaty so i ordered both M sways (they should be here and installed within a week).

1/ Question: on my current stock suspesion, when ever i am pushing the car a bit, and i hit a bump in a turn, the back end "jarrs" sideways which is sometimes more than a bit scary. what is the primary cause of this: my stock shocks?, springs?, sways?)..... and how best to fix this? (please be specific and recommend a product if u can.

note that i may possibly get koni FSD to replace my stock shocks (orb recommended this) that will leave just the springs to do (sways and shocks should be done by then).

2/ question: i am looking for sport springs that will not lower my current STOCK suspension height any more than say 8 mm. the full M suspension package would lower it too much (15mm drop).
any spring suggestions to match my koni FSD BUT without lowering my car at all (or max lowering say 8mm)?

3/ lastly since (because of clearance issues) i cannot go with a full integrated suspension package (like full M suspension), will going slightly larger in tires help much? (say 235/40/18 front, and 265/35/18 in the rear?

thanks for the help, I NEED IT!

Could it be that the cabrio has a softer setup than the coupe? Do you have the Sports Package? With my coupe I never experienced this. Firmer shocks should help. I recommend Bilstein. Good luck.

Mine does this too, it's just that the suspension is if anything, more stiff...

It can skate around a bit.

I'm going with Quaife lsd, hartge roll bars and some proper tyres.

Hopefully should help.

All the extra weight of the E93 make it somewhat more difficult to provide a compliant suspension. It is easier to work with a lighter car. That said, there are a couple of things that should help.

More compliant non-rft tires will make a big difference. Light weight rims will help. Quality coilovers with relatively soft springs will help. Any weight reduction that you can do will help, but most especially unsprung weight. An LSD will help if power transfer is an issue -- but it does not sound like it in your case.

The full M-sport suspension with light rims & non-rfts should be a great package, not sure what clearance issues you have, but 1.5cm is not a big deal.

Please be more specific about what type of bump you are talking about -- gravel road washboard, or potholes on pavement, or ... etc.

Larger tires will not help, and may make things worse. If you opt for the Koni fsd, I would stick with the stock springs. The fsds can't handle much stiffer springs, which it sounds like you do not want anyway.

I would get a E93 from your dealer that has ZSP and take it for a test drive over areas that you have found cause skating. You have a lot of interesting cars in your history; I find it surprising that the E93 has more problems with skittering than some of the other more tightly sprung vehicles.

hey doc!
1/ i installed the M front & rear sways, helped quite a bit. problem before is when i would hit a bump - in a turn at speed, and after my car got slightly airborne, the car would land and then skip a bit sideways...not a good thing. new sways seemed to have helped quite a bit. i now also always turn DTC on when i get into my car.
2/ new jline rims and yokohoma advan sports in transit to me. tires 235 40 x 18, rear 265x 35 x 18". total UNSPRUNG weight savings approx 40 lbs... i cannot wait (no pun intended).
3/ koni told me fsd not yet tested on e93 cabrios, so they will not guarantee performance. therefore, this a no go for me.

i plan to wait to mount new rims and tires, and take it from there. i just want to be glued to the road more when going into turns at speed. my guess is that:
a/ i may go for bilstien adjustable. either the 9 way adjustables, or may opt for the bilstiens with a 2 way switch (interior mounted switch): 1 switch setting for normal driving, 1 for sport. i do not know if the "sport" is aggressive enough for very fast (non racing) cornering. any ideas?

i believe (correct me if i am wrong), that the bilstiens will give me more cornering performance and (hopefully) similar ride quality as M springs and shocks...some say straight M shocks and springs are not optimal.
b/ later, i may switch out my M rear sway for the thicker H&R rear sway.
every little bit may help correct?

what do you think about the above?

btw, there are many steep driveways here in south america, so lowering my car even 15mm is alot! also because of high car costs here, i may have to wait a year before i see an e93 with a sport suspension.

thanks to all

I plan to do the same mods to mine, M-sport rear sway (still waiting to see what the Hotchkis sways are like first though) & Bilstein coilovers. My family lived in Chile, a bit up in the mountains outside Santiago, for a couple years when I was still too young to drive. I would choose a X5 335d if I lived there now and could afford one.

i had an m sway bars front and rear added to my stock suspension.
it helped my quite a bit, but in retrospect, i should have gone with the REAR H&R sway.

the H&R rear way is - if i remember correctly - 3mm thicker (18mm vs 15mm ?) than the m rear sway, and many
guys in the know recommend it.

i plan on more susp upgrades as soon as i am done in the engine bay
