BMW y cable

Looking to get the y cable from BMW I read they are around £50 just wondered if people had bought them off eBay and amazon and are they just as good?

Also am I right in thinking it will enable me to use the iPod on my iphone and change songs via steering wheel and dash as oppose to having to put shuffle on when using the aux lead? My car just has Bluetooth not idrive?

Its a usb and aux lead connects your ipod/iphone to the car and allows direct control

I'm confused so can I plug in and switch tracks playlists Etx from head unit or steering wheel or does it literally just stream music through like the aux lead

I have idrive but i can use the steering wheel controls to operate it, not sure without idrive. I just bought an iphone 4 lead and used a genuine apple lightning adapter.

Bargain!

few more

and if you have an iphone 5 etc ...

can be used via iDrive and using steering wheel controls to change song. you cant select playlist via steering wheels no, but the iDrive knob is far quicker depending on the amount of playlist you have.

Y cable allows to you change track using steering wheel and shows up the playlists and albums etc...

The usb part is used for the control / playlist info and the aux is used for audio, But i also found out the other day just plugging in a normal apple usb cable works as well so it must be purely digital this way, but it crashes every so often when transferring album art so went back to the y cable as i was getting pissed off resetting ipod all the time lol
