Post Radar Detector Mounts for Escorts and Valentine-1's

Here's a brief review of a pretty slick solution to mounting your detector (Escort's and V1's). The look surpasses the "cups look" on the windshield and adds a clean OEM look to mounting, especially if your detector is hardwired. I ordered the Super Z Escort Mount for a 9500ix. The mount has some flexibility in mounting, but is limited by the BMW mirror housing design. The unit sits just under the 'clown nose' so it's position is not to high, and not to low with no impairment of vision, which is very convenient to reach the 9500ix buttons since I deleted the Escort Smartcord for a direct hardwire to the fuse box.

Here's the site with iPhone pics of my mount below: http://www.countryjoycrafts.com/Conn...arDetector.htm

I'm quite selective and see these as the benefit to other mount options:
  • Clean unobtrusive look
  • Secure mount
  • Solid construction/materials
  • Stealthy

It's not perfect, but what is...a couple of minor points:
  • Fitment limits mirror adjustment capability; a 1/4" longer bottom half bracket would be perfect for adjustability w/o adding too much length for BMW's.
  • Vibration of the detector display is apparent in bumpy road conditions; maybe either a stiffer replacement of the Escort OEM bracket would work or some material between the bracket halves to assist absorption.
  • May be a bit pricey at $60.

Overall recommended IMO! I'm pleased with this solution.

or... you could not spend any extra money and just put it up by your rear view mirror...

In California, window mounting is illegal so this may be a loophole.

What? Window mounting is illegal in Cali? Where are you supposed to mount your detector, then??

The Super Z fit on your E92? I've been looking for something like this but any i have seen wont fit our mirrors. Are the mirrors the same on the M as on the non M?

Thanks for posting this.

Looks tacky and obtrusive. And is damn expensive. I prefer my visor mount.

Dashboard is fine I believe. Or hardwired integrated. It is a stupid law in my opinion.

If you like window mounting it, I wouldn't let the new law stop me. Just make sure you have a top of the line detector. I've only gotten complements from police on my V1.

Not 100% sure, but I think they are the same mirror unit...if in doubt measure the stem with a string then divide by 3.14 for dia.

Installing the Z mount to the center post is probably the hardest thing I've ever tried to do
