New member, need some suggestions.

Hello, my name is Sam.

I currently drive a 2007 328i Cabriolet Automatic which was paid off when we first bought the car from the dealer. Since we own the car, our warranty is about to expire in one month and it worries me.

BMW offered me an Ultimate extended warranty for $2300, which is two more years or up to 120K. We are at 75K now. It is by Coverage One and looking at the Do Not Cover list, I really wonder if it is worth it. We are probably going to keep the car for 2 or 3 years.

Another thing is would it be weird since i only have one month warranty left to go to dealer and ask them to check for a bunch of problems. Like:

#1. In the morning, when the car first starts, it's really difficult for the car to shift from 1st to 2nd, takes a really high rev to get into second.

#2. Under sudden braking, the steering wheel turns one way, either left or right. I went to one of the dealers and they said it's cause by the little rocks/imbalance on the road and they said they checked the brakes, it's fine. I want to go back to my home dealer to get it checked again.

#3. When rolling to a stop, the car clearly jerks when going from 2nd to 1st gear.

Any suggestions.

Hi Sam and welcome.

I would ask the dealer to look into it ASAP.. This way these issues are flagged and documented prior to your original warranty running out. It might allow you to get them fixed later, and be covered by the original agreement.

I bought the CoverageOne Ultimate Extended Warranty for my 2008 335xi e90, 80K km or 4 years. Peace of mind as I plan on keeping the car for a while...

Any issue addressed to the dealer before warranty expires, will still be covered. I had an issue which they couldn't duplicate when i brought it in, but said it will be covered if it ever happens, within a year after warranty expires.

Have the dealer do a full check up before it expires. They'll charge labour for this, but it's worth the $100 or so IMO.

#1 is a fairly common problem.
#3 sounds like a driving issue, are you going into 1st at too high of speed? You should be basically stopped before going into 1st.

It would not be weird at all. I wouldn't worry about that. I suggest you book an appointment and get the dealership to look over any problems you are having ASAP.

Oh, and welcome to the forums

Thanks for the replies everyone! Appreciate it. Should I go to my dealer and ask them to check the problems and say I would like to pay to have a complete check up also before my warranty expires?

^ I'd say please do it for free. If they do though, then you're a lucky person.

Just tell them you'd like a full inspection (in writing) prior to the warranty expiring. If it's written then if an issue occurs shortly after it may still be covered for you under warranty as a 'missed' problem.
